I have been a regular poster on Flickr since 2006, with a 'pro-account' when it became available (no advertising), and it suits my needs. I hope Flickr will find an enthusiastic buyer.

there are two levels of organization, collections which contain albums. Earlier there had been links to the collections with thumbnails on the front page of one's flickr. After the big changes there only is a link to albums on the front page, the link the the collections is buried.
Interested open albums, not collections. I have hundreds of albums, to have a useful overview of my photos one would need to open the collections. That change overnight had made the organization of my photos pretty much obsolete, had taken away the means of presenting one's photos in a meaningully organized way.
The link to the collections again should become directly accessible on the front page, best again with thumbnails depicting it's containing albums. One again should be given, at least an option, to present one's photos in an organized way

Is there then a simple way to upload to another hosting site preserving tags etc.?
I like the idea of having my tags which I add assiduously, but then how are they displayed in the download and as above can they be re-used elsewhere. Have you actually used the program? The site looks a bit "flashy" and I am struggling to see answers to sensible questions, which I hope these are.

There are other usability issues that came about with the overnight changes as well. Something simple like navigating through my own photos is now cumbersome where it used to be so simple.

I also prefer Flickr since the updates. Naturally it's not perfect, and some people lost some functionality that was possibly peripheral to the majority, but overall I really like the way it looks these days.
The dev team still need to optimize the Javascript though. I'm wondering whether that'll ever happen, unless Yahoo find a buyer who really want to keep the site alive and vibrant, rather than someone simply keen on monetizing it in some tacky way.

I use it occasionally, but I am with those who thought it was once better. My greatest complaint is that the site seems much slower than it once was. The supposed user interface improvements over the years make it more sluggish and even painful to use in my humble opinion. The access to group information and discussions was once simple and intuitive, but I now find it confusing and not particularly informative. That may be what they want - less emphasis on groups.

agree, the lack of a "collections" button on the front page is absurd. i actually sent flickr an email requesting one, and the response i received that it was not even being considered. it's easier to find the collections button now under the "more" pulldown on the right, but it's nonsense that it's in a menu at all, and not right on the bar next to "albums" as part of a coherent storage structure.

If someone buys it, they're going to want a return on the investment. Let's hope that $$ comes from advertisers and not users, but... that's not the way of the internet these days.

I am Admin for 4 Groups and Mod for 3 Flickr offers no support at all bar the odd intervention that they can't help on the forums.
Two clicks and you set up a Group, well maybe four clicks, then you loose interest and walk away, or maybe for a host of valid reasons, the Group starts getting spammed with irrelevant photos, no one can delete them the Admin has walked leaving no Mods no Admin and Flickr don't care, well is it any wonder Groups and discussion on them is rapidly dying?
I suppose it is what kind of community you want to create, obviously for the owners one that turns a profit. As a Cloud storage option it is fine, until it disappears.
Demotix was a UK news site I know several photographers that submitted and made modest money, literally overnight it was sold to Corbis (Chinese owned) and was closed down with no warning, all uploads inaccessible, just a warning.

Also, I think a lot of people might even forget there ARE groups. New members might not even be aware groups exist. Used to be, every time I logged on there were new photos from my groups right on the home page; not any more. That feature has disappeared so if I want to see what's going on in my groups, I have to go there intentionally just to see.
