it pays to carry around a camera...

I am surprised how much easier it
is now to approach strangers to capture
a picture, even in our culture.

Of course, carrying a RF is slightly easier
as it is quite compact compared to a DSLR
and it doesn't lag like a P&S.

here are some examples from 2012:

Example #1
========
I was stepping off the taxi going into
Mandarin Oriental when I saw this Bride
waiting for the wedding photographer.
I said "So Pretty", she smiled and I
took this shot.

Leica IIIf with 50 Summicron.
Film is Kodak Tri-X 400.
Exposure was way off, corrected in
post processing.

Example #2
========
i was in Nex Mall, and I spot this mother
with baby. I asked her if I could snap
a picture, and she said yes.

Tri-X 400, M2 with 35 Cron.

Example #3
========
I was Dhaka going to see a difficult client.
Next to the building there were these 2 women and their kids
begging by the road-side. i zone-focused at f11 (i think) and quickly snapped a shot
without framing.

prayer-a.jpg

this was like 5.30am on an Emirates flight to Islamabad Pakistan.

Three guys walked to the middle of the plane and started a call to prayer.

Soon it was joined by a whole lot of men and women who queued up

and took turns to pray.

I didn't care, i snapped away.

Good shots and the grabbed intuitive ones are so rewarding when they work out.

I take my camera everywhere except on dog walks but regretted that recently..
Passing a rural bungalow, just a yard from me an elderly woman was putting some rubbish into her bin..she was about 90 and had the highest beehive haido i ever saw, deep red lipstick and an expression of disgust toward the bin..
I should get a film p+s for dog walks!

was meeting a client for lunch at Suntec for lunch,
while walking back, saw this shy guy with a fabulous
tattoo of tiger and dragon. i asked him politely and he
acquiesced.
