Hi all.

How many of you out there have made custom ICC profiles using IT8 targets? Has it made a big difference? The main problem I have when scanning is when I pull the images I've scanned with Vuescan up in Photoshop the saturation is off the charts. Will IT8 profiling help this as well as improve general colour accuracy? Also, does anyone sell targets for colour neg film?

Cheers all,

J

Having a specific profile for your scanner can only help.

But the saturation problem sounds like a scan settings issue, not a profile one.

The IT8 target is a standard, as far as I know there isn't a specific version for color neg.

My copy of Silverfast Ai came with an IT8 target, and yes it helps. I still have to tweak sats, contrast, mids/highs, etc. but calibration with the target every now and then gets things closer to a workable starting point. And Silverfast has a great set of tools - I find I don't have much to do in PS.

As Rogue noted, AFAIK color is color and the same IT8 profile is used for negatives as well as positives - though the profile by definition is optimized for positive transparencies. I don't think Vuescan provides IT8 targets with their software. You may have already found this link:

Good luck!

You can get both colour print and colour transparency targets from Kodak, but they do cost quite a lot (http://www.rpimaging.com/store/CID17 for prices). So look after them.

To get as accurate a match as possible, you'll need to find the production date of the target (which is printed on it), and get the relevant target file from Kodak at this address. To get the correct target, click on the FTP link at the bottom right of the page.

For monochrome work have a look at this site.

And this Google search will bring up lots more information.
