Came upon this book last thursday while I was visiting a travel bookstore searching for bike travel literature (the human-powered bike 🙂). Found nothing on that but they were cleaning some old inventory and this book called my attention at 5 euros.

Essentially, two friends, both photographers, one from Italy (Alberto Ramella), the other one from the US (Jake Price), exchange their places for a while and each one photographs each other's country.

Some very nice work there, and rangefinder style I'd say.

Um, what is rangefinder-style anyway? Did the book not say what type of cameras the two were using? Just curious ~ ; - )

Well H*, similar kind of shots I've found here, available darkness, shots that look made using hyperfocal distance, sometimes subjects really close to the camera without noticing it... Not sure if RF cameras but a style similar to many RF pictures I've seen here.

*2 people could meet at shooter #1's house
spend a week together, get to know each other, get the lay of the land, be introduced to some local friends.

*then shooter #2 heads off to #1's place (alone)

*they both stay & shoot with each other's place as home base.

*week four, shooter one returns home, where both shooters stay for that final week.

joe, that's a very cool idea (pun intended)!

However, I can't leave my family for a week, let alone a full month 🙁
Still, anyone looking for a change is welcome to stay with me and my family for a while - and I'm quite serious!
We have a relatively large house, spare bedroom, etc.. - and I have a relatively large heap of rangefinders to play with 🙂
The best time to visit would probably be Spring (May or June) - lots of places to see, and with new highways we could even be on the Adriatic coast in a couple of hours by car.
I'm a freelance translator, working from home, so I'm relatively free to do as I please, and can take a few days off whenever I like....
It would be nice to have someone from RFF as a guest here - and there are lots of photo opportunities, too.
Zagreb (the Croatian capital) is only an hour's drive from where I live, and I can pick up anyone coming by plane there.... The airline connections are pretty good.

Of course, this offer extends also to our European members, who might find it easier to visit for a week or so.

actually, I might drop by fr a visit next summer, if you are home then; my girlfriend's Hungarian part of the family has a house in Tihany on Lake Balaton, and we usually spend a week there in August, if we can - and that is not so far from Varazdin...
And I'm also looking forward to meeting Oscar in Barcelona in May, and we're going to Copenhagen for a few days in September (those cheap SkyEurope flights....), so if anybody from around there wants to meet...
We don't have a very large apartment (no guest room), so I can't offer accomodation, but anyone visiting Vienna is of course welcome to go out for a bit of focussing fluid or a photo walk, or whatever, if he wants!

Well, -a house in Tihany you say, Roman? that's not bad!
I'll hopefully be very busy this summer, however we have a ticket alreadt to Barcelona, mid june, so if we can make it, we might meet Oscar there😀 By "we" i refer to me and my girlfriend. However, i would be very curious about Croatia, never been there, only the legends I've heard about how beautiful place it is!
OTOH, Vienna is just 3 hours from Budapest, so as soon as I move there, we can meet with Roman either in hungary or in austria...
We shall see.

Off-topic:
Sky Europe cheap flights, tell you what happened. In the last weekend i visited my girlfriend in Budapest. Had a flight at 10 in the morning, friday. I have to take a train to the airport, almost 2 hours; i was with one foot on the train already when the airline called me that the flight is cancelled. 🙁 OK, i was offered a flight in the evening, at 8PM, to Bratislava,Slovakia, from where they will provide a bus to Budapest (<3 hours trip). OK, I said, what can one do.
However, the Bratislava flight was 5 hours delayed so I arrived there at 1 AM in the night ionstead of 22:00. Reason: ice on the airport.
In fact, there was ice on the whole Slovakia.
Therefore, the bus trip took not 3 but 5 hours.
There's 200 m between the slovakian and hungarian sides, no man's land. No man's land therefore nobody cares to de-ice it. We spent 60 damn minutes on those 200 meters, the bus had to try 2 times to go through. There was nobody else only some trucks on another lane.
It was a nightmare on ice. That night the bus driver got 5 years older, i think.

Well, what can i say, it was a cheap ticket🙂

Sounds great, Pherdinand! Are you familiar with the Tihany area? The house is not in town, but in Gödrös, that little hamlet above the bay towards Balatonfüred.
Nicole & me also go to Budapest two or three times a year - she has got an uncle and an aunt there, though usually we stay with her friend Kecskes Karina (Do you know her? She has become a bit famous as an actress during the last years: http://www.szinhaz.hu/kecskeskarina/ ).

Our flights are from Bratislava, too, BTW.
Nicole once flew from Vienna to Dublin via Budapest with Malev, and the plane broke down, so she had to spend a night at the hotel in Budapest..

Well, i'm not familiar with the area, i've been there once some time ago, i liked it, that's all...
And nope, i don't know Karina, alas! 😉 Maybe if i move there and get more familiar with the famous hungarians...i mostly know the ones that are long gone.

Somehow i'm out of luck with these visits. In the winter, when i went there, my girlfriend bought tickets (a month in advance), for some nice theater play. I had not seen a play for ages. We were really looking forward to it.
And then, one of the main actors got reeally sick just 10 mins before the play had to begin. They sent an ambulance after him.

Sheesh.
