I was called today by my indian friend, he had a special request. He needs some full-body shots to send home to his parents so that they can look for a potential wife for him. He's pretty serious about it. SO he asked me to take some nice shots of him. Not the funny ones he already has, but some serious looking ones, showing a well-dressed, intelligent indian tiger 🙂
It's also urgent, like, tomorrow he is leaving for some time so it should be done today/tonight. I think i will use the nice clear late afternoon lights we have nowadays.
I just don't know what equipment to use.
I think i'll go for 6x6 anyway, so there will be more than three grains available for his face details. He wants colour and I have good experience with fuji NPH in 6x6.
So it's either the super ikonta or the rolleiflex. Or both🙂

Just thought to share it, i feel very excited about it - it's the first time I do something like this (although another friend asked me already to take some shots at her wedding, but that will be in august only).

Oh, and he will "pay me" with a great diner 😀

Rolleiflex for color, Super Ikonta for B/W ? I know he wants color, but trust me, in the end they will always ask 'did you take some on B&W as well?' 🙂

He only wants colour (Although i might try to push him and use a roll of FP4+ too 😀 )
The super ikonta is tempting me; the last shots had such a 3D look that i've never seen before. But i dunno if i can achieve that again... so many factors... esp. the light will be certainly different.

He is cooking me the diner, not paying me. 😀
We are already invited to his wedding in India, if it happens. Travel on our cost, of course😀

😀 good for you, post some pictures here if you can scan them 😀

Agfa RSX II 100 is good for skin tones, nice and neutral, in case you need a film tip... never used it in 120 format, but should be just right 🙂
(slide film though 😉 )

I've used quite a bit of NPH in 120. It's a very friendly film for portraits. Superb skin tones. Best at 320 ISO (at least, that's what I rate it at).

Hi.
Well I;'m back with some results🙂
Sorry for the scan quality; have no 6x6 neg scanner...
These are made with the rolleiflex on NPH, i hope nobody objects against the non-RF issue 🙂

I'm in a dilemma: the guy left to ME to choose the 4 best ones out of 12, to enlarge and send it to his parents. Two are out due to blinking etc but the rest are a difficult choice. And I suck at editing.
Help!

PS: it's HIM who has to look good, not the picture itself. And, on the prints, The shadow details are there...

Cheers

Good work. 2,4,9 & 10 are my prefered shots, but I think they're all quite usable for his purpose.

Enjoy the meal!

William

OMG, one dinner for photos that get him a wife?
He's either paying way too much or not nearly enough!
I like all of them but for something this serious I wouldn't use any of the shots where he's in casual clothes. Of the rest, #1 is good except for the hair(fixable?). Iwould then pick these four:#2,#4,#8, and #10.
Did you shoot any BW?
If this works out well for him, could you take some pictures of me? I'm just not meeting anyone here lately...
The best option(I think): make him choose.
Rob

🙂, thanks guys - for the oppinions and the fun. Rob, it's just a friendly thing, he offered the dinner because i did it in the evening (it was good food).
I have to choose because he's out for some time, I'm the one that will send the prints off to his parents...

After seeing the first few I started looking for some eye-contact, some personal warmth. And enough detail to make out he's got all his limbs and teeth and isn't fat. Assuming these elements appeal to potential brides and their families! 🙂

For this I like 6 & 7 but also like #9 in which the suit is a plus.
