Take an old Mockba-5 (they're cheap) ,an Angulon 65mm f6.8 lens,a few loose bits of aluminum ( and some spare time ). And a 6x9 with quite wide coverage (more than the viewfinder will ever show) and a bellows that extends far enough to allow near macro picture taking is born.
To focus (after checking on a ground glass) I've made three spacer blocks that fit between the lens holder and body that equate to 10 to 20 ft,another for infinity and the last for macro ( it helps to have a tape measure to get the subject distance close for macro )

Very interesting set up!
Any photos from this to share?
Rob

EDIT: the photos you posted while I was typing look very good!
Nice job with this.

Peter, a super job.
Were I to be familiar with some machining techniques, my cobbling up frankencameras would be as cool as yours 🙂

Thanks "Shadowfox",but I must say the tools were a hack saw and a drill press, plus a tap for the threaded rod that moves the lens unit. I'm having a heck of a time trying to imagine how much of what's in front of me actually ends up on the film. The pic with the boat in the marina for instance. I didn't even see the pole on the right or the boat house on the left. The 65mm lens on 6x9 is quite wide angle and shows little distortion.
I'm looking forward to trying some vertical shots and attempting more macro,I'm sure once I get the scale focusing down pat, this Angulon will produce what most rangefinders lack in close up ability. I'll keep people posted with pics as the weather improves here on the wet coast.
Regards,Peter

Thanks,it's under going an alignment mod presently,I noticed that as I enlarged the pics I saw the focus changing across the print,a bit of brass shim stock and it'll be up again in a day or so.
Regards,Peter

Reposting this picture that I'm finally pleased with from the FrankenCamera. I was getting light leaks everywhere and the slow shutter was not helping at all. To be honest I was about to remove the lens and chuck the camera. Next it'll be some crude viewfinder,I really have no idea what's going to be on the film ! Peter

Cool! I hadn't seen this thread before.
That is a nice piece of work. I really like the threaded rod focussing. It is quite sophisticated. I'm curious how the block at the base of the body works that the rod spins in.

I'm currently working on a 4x5 wide angle camera based around a linhof front standard and graflock back. I'm using a similar double rod design with a sliding front standard. I thought about including a threaded rod focus mechanism, but decided it was a step too far. I now slide the lens unit to infinity, and then use a focus mechanism on the lens for fine tuning.

Just come across this - nice project 🙂

I like this format & field of view. I expect you've addressed this by now; I cannibalised the viewfinder from a charity-shop disposable 35mm camera with 28mm lens 😉 .

"Citizen99" Thanks for the suggestion,çuz I've been toying with other ideas and none have really got me excited enough to put any effort into them.
"CNNY" on the base of the camera is a block with a hole large enough for the threaded rod to slide through and the threaded rod simply has nylock nuts (on the threaded rod)
on each side of the block with just enough clearance to prevent binding when turning the knob on the threaded rod for focusing. The front block was drilled and tapped for the
threaded rod and then simply cut through with a hacksaw. This was done to hasten moving the lens for macro work,I'd simply undo the front block and slide the lens assembly forward , otherwise I'd grow old turning the focusing knob to move the lens that distance.
Thanks to everyone for their remarks, it's been fun to make and challenging to keep
it cheap. Peter

I've since glued the viewfinder from a donor Yashica GSN to the top. Gives me some hint of what may be on the film. Peter
I'm starting to enjoy this camera!

Well it's spring here in Vancouver and the cherry trees are in full blossom, time to dig out FrankenCamera again with some Tri-X. View finder stolen from Gsn has given me some rough idea of what's going to be on the film. Seem to have been sloppy with my sealing tape and have a slight light leak,oh well. Keeps me busy.

Here we go ... Vancouver folks rubbing it in that it's already Spring there.

🙄

Good job - 6x9 is a really nice size and format. When I worked in a pro lab I always got excited when I got an enlargement order with 6x9 negs. Easy to print, and you could pretty easily see the increase in quality over 6x9 or even 6x7.

^ One thing we can't rub in is how outrageous accommodation is here. Good thing I drive a cheap car or I'd have to walk here to take pictures, and I'm way too old for that !
