A co-worker lost his eye to cancer. The insurance did not cover the cost of a proper prosthetic eye so his co-workers chipped in for a proper replacement.

Reminds me about Josef Sudek, who included his glass eye/eyes (he evidently had spares) in some of his still life photos.
