I will say that I'd far rather have a Sony sensor than a Samsung. Sensors are one of the remaining areas where Sony absolutely kicks ass. The marvelous sensor in the Pentax K-x is reportedly a Sony.
DxO ranking says that the Samsung GX20 sensor is only second to the Sony APS sensors in the Nikon models and not to the Sony cameras. The 4/3 sensors way lower in that ranking than Samsung's GX20 sensor.
I find this announcement pretty exciting; Sony partner with Zeiss for a lot of their kit lenses; they also price their cameras keenly, have more industrial muscle than, say, Olympus, and have good incentive to sneak ahead of Nikon and Canon.
With Olympus, of course, we had a wait of over a year between the concept and the production camera - but this news does at least illustrate that other manufacturers see this as a growth market. INteresting, too, that where Samsung went for SLR-styling, like the GH1, Sony's product looks squarely based on the Olympus Pen model.
There were hints about this from Ricoh at the GRX launch: one of the great things about the Ricoh system is its infinite versatility (full-frame M-mount module anyone? 😀 )
