the postman just left a few minutes ago (ok, about 45 minutes ago) and i have been playing since he left.
the red soft release is on top, the 2 gig lexar card is in it, the zm 35 is mated to it and the black leather wrist strap is attached securely.
it has a bigger feel to it than the r4a but is pretty easy to figure out how to use it also.
the lcd is small and has some scratches, the cover is grippy but there is evidence that it has been re-glued at some of the corners and the body looks new, not a mark on it. the top deck is very cool looking. i miss a grip.
the full case looks new and the spare battery is being charged.
i have 2 generic batteries on the way from h.k. (ebay).

i am looking forward to the weekend for some 'quality time' with it.

Congrats Joe!!

I had to glue the covering back a couple of different times.... no big deal.

Looking forward to your pics.........

Great news. I hope you like it as much as anticipated. I have enjoyed mine enough to have bought a second body (from an RFFer) last fall. I hope you get the same enjoyment.

I can see a new cover in it's future maybe Joe ... something to compliment the blue Z1?

I just ordered one of the Flexgrips for my OMs, Joe. I'll let you know how they look ....

Congrats on the camera.

From Japan.

Joe:
Enjoy the camera. I've been using mine since 2005 with (knock on wood) no problems. It goes everywhere with me. I hope yours gives you as much pleasure as mine has given me!

Congrats Joe!

One accessory that I have found to be a MUST with the R-D1S is a megaperl 1.3x magnifier. Since you're a WA afficionado, you probably won't miss it, but I''ve found the magnifier to be extemely useful.

You already got yours? It's like just yesterday I read about your wanting one!

Joe, you're one smooth operator... Enjoy the camera!! :)

I had the pleasure of playing with one a couple of times (one of which was jeff's, although only briefly, while I was in Philly) and it was a "hhmmmm, should've gotten one of these a while back" kinda feeling...
Congratulations & hope you enjoy the thing, Joe.

Where can I find one? Haven't seen any on ebay or any US online stores.

You can order it from megaperl in Japan - see link. Note that Dirk cannot sell it to the US for RF use, since doing so infringes on patents (says so on his website). Thus, when you order, you have to state that you intend to use it for your SLR.

+1

the magnifier is a must if you shoot longer lenses and Dirk is great! the magnifier comes with a built in diopter which really allows for optimum viewing. the only problem is that it too easily slips out of your adjustment so you need to look out for that. i've heard of people using plumber stoppers on the eyepiece and think i may try this. (i've had this since June and have gotten used to adjusting it every morning before i go out.)

congrats, joe, enjoy!

and don't worry about the cover -- it's one of the features :D

as someone is loaning me an M2 (with the possibility of purchase if i fall in love), i'm kind of holding off on my cameraleather purchase until i see what shape it's in. i can't imagine anything worse than clashing cameras :p
