It's official! I joined the RF Club (QL17)

Greetings everyone!

This morning my long waited Canon G-III QL17 arrived 😀

I bought this on *bay, and came as described (it has a advance film flaw, keeps on advancing even after shutter is cocked). I knew this, but I thought it wouldnt be too anoying (the worse that can happen is to loose some film), so I might use it like it is...
Lens seems fine, shutter fires ok, now i ll get a SR-44 and do a small adapter with a small diode to drop a bit the voltage.
Can't wait to fire the first roll and see if I like a RF 😀 If I do I might think of buying a russian made RF in a near future 😉

I have only been using SLR / TLR and scale focus cameras...

Want to make sure i get a roll of this camera, before i open it up (in case anything goes bad, i have at least one good roll ehehehe)... I already made some research on the forum and saw some people with similar problems, I might need to open it all up :|
I am a bit afraid of that part where we take the front cover... it seems so stiff and hard (not flexible at all). wonder if after we take it (or part of it) camera will look the same...

But thanks for offering the help, i will surelly need it when i start that repairing job : 🙂

Hmmmm after having my first roll (currently it is drying i just developed it) with the Canonet, I one possible dumb question:

When I focus infinity on the canonet, the image on viewfinder matches about 1mm before the end of the focus ring. Is this normal or do I need to re-align the viewfinder/focus system? I have one SLR lens where the infinit (not sure if this is correct english) is not on the end of the focus ring, but since it is a SLR i can make sure where is the correct focus.

I hope you can understand my problem, I cant describe these situations very well on english 🙂

The lack of agreement of the focusing scale, infinity stop, and rangefinder is indeed an issue. First collimation of the lens has to be checked (where is infinity really), then the rangefinder adjusted to match.

Also, note that the camera winds on (without stopping) until the exposure counter counts up to 1.

I have been looking at my first roll shot with the canonet and all shots seem ok. Focus seems correct, and (this is new to me) I shot almost everything with the Sunny 16 rule and some improvisation on night scenes and got most shots with a correct exposition 🙂 That made me really happy, or maybe it was just begginers luck 😉 I always have been a "meter follower" only doing small stop adjustments to certain situations, but this roll just have proven to me I can do a little more than that. I can meter the whole scene! ehehehe

There was something else I have spotted on my G-III, during this roll one time I tryied to advance the film and it skiped some times (like if the film was stuck and it couldnt move and the dented rings skiped the film holes)... I rewinded again and it got again good...
Not sure if this might be a problem or just something normal... maybe i can get some opinion of the G-III veterans out there 🙂 I would be much apreciated.

These are my thoughs right now on the subject, I hope I can post tommorow some photos of the first roll !

Hmmmmm thanks for the tip, It looks like that could be the problem... next roll i put into it I ll make sure to take the slack out 🙂
Apart from that I guess I am getting used very well to RF focusing... 🙂

Be sure to take the slack out of the film after the first shot. GIII's don't like slack film.

I finally decided to open up my canonet to fix the advance problem, and the problem was really on the second schematic of this site like you can see on my photo down there. That part was really stuck, and needs some lubbing. Now that I am in here I might put some oil on most of the mechanics of the winding gear, guess it will only make good right?

The most annoying part of this camera problems is solved, before I reassemble it, is there anything I should do?

I also have a small problem, on the infinity point, there is no complete agreement between the lens scale focus and rangefinder. Since I noticed the scale focus is right, I wanted to do some horizontal adjustment of the rangefinder, however, and according to that site i mentioned before, I see no screw to adjust it horizontally on that hole. I am looking well?
