The other day, in some thread someone was kind enough to invite whiskies.

After seen cigar's, I think is fair to dedicate some lines to whisky, don't you agree?

What do you prefer? Scotch, Burbon, Japanese, something exotic...?

Thanks to some Brit friend of mine, I learned to love single malts.

My favourites: Lagavulin, Arbelour and Macallan.

What aboput you?

Cheers !!!

I don't drink but I do have a bottle of Midleton Irish Whiskey bottled in 1993...never been opened...It was a given to me as a gift while working in Ireland in 1995...

I like Scotch and Irish Whisky, single malt, blended it's all good. Burbon? Less so than the former. I like Manhattans, though. But as a cocktail, I like a good blended Scotch over ice, lots of ice.
I like single malt scotch, but sometimes I find the "smokiness" of some single malts unappealing. It seems almost forced (like a really oaky Chardonnay can get). It can be a bit much. I ordered a single malt scotch at a restaurant (I forget the name of the scotch), and I could smell the it from across the room as the waiter brought it to me. It tasted great, but the scent was grossing my wife out and drawing comments from other diners. My wife said it smelled like BandAids. :) And to be honest, it did, but it didn't taste like BandAids.

Single malt. Highland Park (Orkney) or Ardbeg (Islay), depending on the occasion. The best whisky I've ever tasted was a blended, however. Johnnie Walker Blue Label. Fantastic, but rather expensive. Nearly $200 a bottle here in Sweden. :(

My favorites have already been mentioned, the first being Ardbeg (17yo or Uigeadail) and the second Springbank.

A few weeks ago I had a dram of Ardbeg 30yo which is a once-in-a-liftime experience, so smoooth...

Lagavulin - but drank out of an ex army plastic mug, with a dash of local water, sat in the tent doorway looking up at the route, having just returned from climbing the 'In Pin' on the Black Cullin - Skye.

Surely that you will kill to me but some cutty sark mixed with 7up...mmmm;)

I also agree with Antti about blue label...40€/glass - 200€/bottle..mmmm but i prefere black label a little bit cheaper!!

Hard to say because I haven't tasted all of them, but for me there are only two:

Glenmorangie, OF COURSE! (Highland)

and

Knockando (Speyside)

Aberlour, GlenDronach, Cardhu ..etc are fine, but I don't really like Oban and other peaty single malts ... it's just a matter of taste.

Love Scotland!!!

Guys

My family (greats aunts and uncles) used to make it, they never troubled the revenue, they are long gone and the country has changed 'ownership', so I wont get into trouble. They called it the 'wee still', alas I dont have the recipe to publish... but it would have been Irish W...

I don't know about that. Have you tried George T. Stagg bourbon? It really gives the best of the best a good run for the money.

WOW! It's amazing how many Islay lovers there are here.
my favs are.
Lagavulin,Laphroaig and Talisker (from my ancestral home of Skye).
As far as bourbon goes... Makers Mark (from my more recent ancestral home of Kentucky)

Nice thread!

"American" just for cocktails and longdrinks (e.g. Lynchburgh Lemonade)

Irish Whiskey for ladies. ;)

And Scotch for me. :D

My favourite one? You already mentioned some really good ones (Ardbeg, Laphroig, Lagavulin, Macallan...)

Also Recommended: Talisker, Edradour, Glen Rothes or Dailuaine (here: Flora & Fauna edition)

But my personal favourites (despite being quite different) are: Mortlach, Caol Ila and Tobermory.
It, of course, depends on the year and cask. But of those three I have a bottle each that contains the best Scotch Whisky I have ever had...

P.S.: You want to buy really good whisk(e)y ? Here you find the best...
