Has anyone taken the top off a IV-Sb to clean the viewfinder? I can remove all the obvious bits, ie the rewind knob, the two screws adjacent to the rewind knob, viewfinder magnification selector, screw at the back, accessory shoe, shutter speed selector dial, rewind/advance selector, trim ring around the shutter release, and the trim around the rangefinder window. After removing all that the top cover is loose, but there does not seem to be enough clearance to remove it - it hangs on the round rangefinder window. Any ideas?

If it is anything like the III, you have to remove the small circular rangefinder lens with a spanner wrench to remove the top.

Thought that might be the case. I assume it unscrews in the normal fashion? Counter-clockwise to remove?

Yes. If I remember correctly, the slots for unscrewing the rangefinder lens from the body are just beneath the slots used to rotate the lens for vertical adjustment. You just position the spanner a little deeper when the outer slots are aligned with the inner slots and the assembly will unscrew counter-clockwise.
You did not mention removing the Wind knob, but I assume that was an oversight.
Good luck with your project.

Thanks Paul. The winding knob (for advancing the film) is out on the lower deck, away from the top cover. I don't think I'll need to touch that.
