About South Africa, as the title might imply - it's in German, maybe available in French somewhere on arte.tv. It's a great, great documentary about a fantastic photographer.
Not that it matters, but he uses an M8 and a black film Leica at some point.

What I found interesting, he refers to himself as a photographer rather than a journalist or documentary photographer.

it's just hide and seek
A great documentary film. I really like his attitude towards life.
What puzzles me a bit is the very soft appearance of those M8 photos shown in the film.

I assume you watched it on TV yesterday? Pictures looked fine to me (on TV). I really like his attitude, too, the way he interacts with people just amazes me. Also how he built a relationship with the people he takes pictures of.

It seems to be unavailable for people outside Germany.. Too pity..

Yes, I watched it on tv yesterday. Just stumbled across it because of the movie that has been broadcasted before.
*edito: It seems that it is not yet available on arte+7. Maybe it will show up in the coming days.

Thx for the link. In the LFI 4/2008 was a documentary about Jürgen Schadeberg with lot of Pictures of the 50th and from 2007. In my opinion he's one of the big photographers with courage and the right human attitude. His pictures have a strong power and are very authentic. Perhaps cause he photographs where he lives and he's not only a observer but he is IN the scene.

I love Arte! I used to watch it while I was in France. For US folks who wouldn't know it, it's a German-French tv channel. It's kind of mix of HBO with PBS with German and French presenters. Pretty elitist by US standards, but very high quality programming usually. Imagine you're in the US and you're getting your evening news greeted with "Willkommen meinen Damen und Herren!" or something like that!

Yes I was actually in Berlin when that issue came out and I remember buying it in a U-Bahn station because of one of his pictures on the front. Of course I missed my train but it was worth it. His work is really excellent.Thx for the link. In the LFI 4/2008 was a documentary about Jürgen Schadeberg with lot of Pictures of the 50th and from 2007.
