J-12 - a great performer

Thats bad Andreas. When the glass and the blades are clean, it could be a badly formed element inside the lens. Did you test it with another body?

Thanks for the nice words, petronius.
I don't see, how a different body could change the result unless its from internal reflections in the body.

I've given up on the J12; this experience in combination with the weird handling was too much. I'm looking for a 35 Ultron now.

I think the quality of FSU lenses can vary enormously.

I agree, but when they're good, they're great.

Ath - the Ultron is awesome. I like mine - fast, sharp, relatively inexpensive and works with the Bessa R. Some people don't like its signature though. Apologies for hijacking the thread - back to the J12.

I like the J-12 which I just got about month ago. I haven't had a chance to really used it that much yet but I'm happy with what it produced so far.

Here is a sample taken with a Fed-2:

I'm also thinking about J12 for my Kiev. What is the better direction to go : older silver ones or the newer black ones, regarding building quality, coating, flare resistance...?

So, after using my J-12 for some time now - about 6 months since I opened this topic here - I find it still very sharp when stopped down to 5.6 or 8, but a bit less sharp when opened up. I also kind of miss the bigger apperture 2 to create "cooler" oof-areas for let's say kind of portrait-shots.

There's a question which came to my mind today: If I would be intended to use a yellow filter, which one should I pick (light, middle or dark) ? And is it still possilbe to turn the apperture ring with it correctly? What about flaring?
(All questions in regard to the LTM/M39 lens type, not the Contax/Kiev one).

Any comments appreciated.

Well i am waiting to get my first two color films (Superia 400) developed with J-12. It supposed to be ready in next few days , so i will try to post the pics here :)

I am also thinking about buying filters - i will try with yellow or light orange - they really make a nice sky on BW photos.

To increase a contrast in BW pics the best are yellow, orange and red filters (depends on what you wan to achieve).

Few shots made with my J-12 ... unfortunatelly there were some problems with scaning and some quality was lost ...

For the money they are a fantastic bargain. One has to spend at least twice or three times as much for a Voigtlander or later Canon lens to outperform it, and then not by that much.

Dave W. I love your first shot here, beautiful bright light makes this photo. It is a great shot! The second one I had a hard time finding where the point of focus is.
