I had a yellow filter on my J-12 and needed to put it on another lens. When I started to unscrew it, the filter didn't seperate from the aperture ring as usual but the whole thing started to come out:bang: . I didn't unscrew it entirely and was able to get my fingers on the aperture ring and take the filter off. I then screwed the lens back together.
My questions:
Did I do any thing bad to the lens? I will be using it tomorrow porbably and will see results late next week.
I don't over tighten filters/hoods(or so I thought)and have used the particular filter on this lens and others before with out any problems, are there any retaining screws that I might have broken?
I guess I'm looking for a little reassurance(but maybe I should be looking for another J-12?); the J-12 is one of my mainstays but I know I'll have at least a little worry in my head when I use this one again.

Don´t know if you did bad or well, but check in Russ Pinchbeck´s Kiev Survival Site. He has a very good explanation about J12 issues.
Anyway, an easy check is to verify if iris closes as expected, and if you have a frosted glass piece, if it focuses correctly.
Hope nothing bad has occurred to your lens. Indeed, the J12 is a beauty!

I doubt if you messed anything up. I have a LTM version of the J-12. As long as you screwed it back on snug you should be okay.

Gents,
Thanks for the replies.
Ernesto, I looked at Russ's site and while it's specific to the Kiev mount J-12, there was good info there.
w3rk5, I looked closely at my lens and am reassured about it. I didn't lose any peices and there is nothing broken. In fact, I now see where some previous owner(or service person) gave it a re-lube. And did well; none of the screw heaeds are banged up and there are no horrible gouges in any of the internal metal surfaces. And whatever grease was used is not floating around the inside of the lens.
I have to admit that I will be looking at the negs rather more closely than I usually do when I get the roll I shot back😉
