I recently sold nearly all my cameras and purchased a Leica M2. It was scary at first, only having one rangefinder. Waiting two weeks for payments to go through and things to ship felt like an eternity. After receiving it and shooting a few rolls, I think I made the right decision. My framing vastly improved because I can actually see the whole framline for once (compared to my Zorki 4). The camera is a work of art and a pleasure to use.

Enough talk, here are some pictures. All taken on Arista II @800 in HC-110:

Pictures from Jacob's Ladder photography exhibition by Melanie King (Sanders McNew's wife). Unfortunately, I didn't get any good photos of Melanie. 🙁

BTW, the one lens I have for the M2 is a Canon Serenar 50mm f1.8 with heavy scratches, something growing inside that looks like miniature flowers, and also what looks like lens separation. Despite all this, it WORKS!

Additional pictures from the Jacob's Ladder event can be seen at my flickr account in the link provided below. 🙂

Chris -- First, congratulations on getting an M2! I recently acquired one and I love it. In fact, I've used nearly the same body/lens combo, although I've got the chrome-and-black Canon 50/1.8. Second, those are wonderful shots! It looks like your efforts at simplifying your kit are paying off. Nice work!

That is a pizza box! The guy ordered pizza, stepped onto the trolley, and started passing it around. Too good to pass up a photo.

nikon_sam -
Thank you. I was very pleased with the framing in these shots. Next time we see each other at a photo event, we can switch cameras for a roll. 🙂

Congratulations to you too. The M2 is a fine photography machine. The truth is, I'd probably have 2-3 lenses if I could afford them. 😀

If one wishes to see great rangefinder work with a wide variety of equipment and lenses, go to:

This photographer is in a league of his own, IMHO.

Thanks Johne. That photographer is good!

Apparently, I was in the company of some seasoned professional photographers at the Jacob's Ladder event.

The guy in the first picture holding up his D-Lux is Eric Kroll, a well known fetish photographer. (the pictures in the background are his that were also on exhibition).

In the last picture of the event Sanders McNew (a great photographer in his own right) is posing with Renee Jacobs, who just won the International Photography Award in the Fine Art Nude Professional category!

And let's not forget, the thought provoking pictures of Melanie King, the reason we were there in the first place.

cjm,
Enjoyed your page very much. I mentioned Peter Eavis as his page is often a wealth of information concerning film, gear, and photography in general. He also is a world class reporter, especially on Wall Street and financial events.

Plug in "M2" there and look at examples. Especially the "gnome."

I got my M2 the other day as well and am awaiting an adapter to try it out. I have already discovered a problem with the slower speeds that Youxin Ye promised to fix, as he was the seller. It seems in great shape otherwise and although I wish it had no problems, I'm happy, confident that Youxin will adjust this thing as soon as I give it a test run to make sure all else is fine, and send it back. (I usually have separation anxiety with my cameras when they go off to camp to get whipped into shape)

Chris, for some odd reason I'm not seeing your photos... Using Firefox, maybe that's a problem.

Hi Chris,

Nice shots, I'm glad to see that you've gone the M2 route. I particularly like the glow that your images seem to have. Haven't had the privilege of using an older lens, but your shots are definitely motivating me to try.
