My lovely early black Leica II has just jammed - it was unusually stiff to wind , then the wind lever stuck .
It probably need CLA , but I have another which is fine , together with my 1947 CLA IIIc , so no pressure to use it .
Do you have any idea why ?
Thanks

Are you able to remove the film (in the dark obviously) via the baseplate in the usual way ?

If so, then the film isn't somehow jammed in the shutter. Possibly one of the curtains or ribbons has broken and jammed in the track ?

Hopefully, as stated above, taking the film out will free things up. Also, take off the lens and check the shutter curtains for clues.

Otherwise, Time for a CLA.

Has it always been "unusually stiff to wind", or is this a recent development ?

I had this happen with a black III (1933) with the first roll I ran through it: I was careless in trimming the leader, the film had a notch which caught in the edge of the frame-gate, splitting the film, with one half going onto the take-up spool, and the other half getting wounnd/bound-up in the shutter curtain...

Ouch - had not thought a film was still in it ! Thanks for the obvious !

Bad news - forgotten test film ruined 'cos I opened the back .
Good news - little Leica alive and well as is the smoother of the pair .

It's no.90360 which I think is from the 1st Leica II batch of 1932 / 3 ?
The other is second batch 106497 .

Unlike my Contaxes , they are totally original .

[ Contax mania intervened I am afraid - just re-dee'scovering these little gems .]
