This New Yorker article presents a nice selection of up close photos of jazz performers from that great era after WWII when bebop and modern jazz was listened to. Somewhere, there're some pictures by Gene Smith, who used to hang out in Thelonious Monk's loft. But I don't know where you can find them.

Thanks for the link to the article. As both a jazz fan and a Blue Note records collector, I appreciated it. I have one of Francis Wolff's photos of John Coltrane, the 'Blue Trane' cover photo.

I hope this is on topic, an excellent video and article about graphic designer Reid Miles and Francis Wolff's iconic Blue Note album covers:

Ironically, Reid Miles hated jazz music. A quote from another article celebrating Blue Note's 80th anniversary:

Ironically, Reid Miles hated jazz music. A quote from another article celebrating Blue Note's 80th anniversary:
“Reid never heard a note of any Blue Note album - he hated jazz,” says Michael Cuscuna, co-founder of Mosaic Records and former director of Blue Note’s archives and reissues.

Thanks for this reference, OTL. Looks like a really interesting book. Maybe Amazon will bring it out on Kindle, with good formatting and a price of $9.99.
(Maybe not.)
