JCH Street Pan 400 Photos

Thank you:) Pioneer, you had commented earlier that this film dries fairly flat. That is a big plus for me as I can get decent 35mm scans with my flatbed v850 _if_ the film is reasonably flat in the holder.

I agree. I have certainly not tried all films but, with the exception of ADOX CMS 20, I have not used a film that dries this nicely.

Even HP5+, with is certainly not bad, is not this flat.

Scanning and printing are much easier when the neg lies perfectly flat.

The JHC Street Pan 400 is the exact same film as the Rollei Retro 400S which you can easily buy off the Maco Direct store in Germany (www.macodirect.de).

And both are the same film as the old Agfa Aviphot 400S.

So, nothing new but for the retail price : the same film branded as JCH Steet Pan 400 costs twice as much as the same film branded as Rollei Retro 400S.

Nuts.

No, it isn't Rollei 400S. It isn't Aviphot 400S either. How many times do I have to say this? :bang:
It is an old surveillance film from Agfa that was not sold commercially. And that is all I am allowed to say thanks to the NDA.

To everyone else, many thanks for your support for the film. I am truly inspired by the images and your dedication to getting the perfect development times.
We are working on the next batches of the film and the possibility of 120.
Thanks

I got a stash of this film a while back and finally got around to shooting and processing a couple rolls. Not sure if stand development in Adonal was the best choice (might try SPD next time), because highlights were really light.

Assumed ISO 250 and guessed exposure. 60 min stand developed in 1:100 Adonal.

I had heard the light traps on the Street Pan canisters were a little weak and that seems to be the case with the rolls I got. First few frames on my rolls are fogged.

I have two from my recent work with Streetpan 400. I feel like I underexposed. I shot at the box speed.

Both are with Summicron 35 f/2 ASPH I

I like the second composition...

My experience leans toward +1 compensation shooting at box with lab development.

Need to try some IR shots... Casey

You didn’t under expose. This film is expired as hell.

Old Agfa aviphot from 2008 with a real sensitivity of about 80-100

Looking at the results I really did feel like ISO 100 was where I would have liked to shoot it.

I have experience with expired films, I like them, but for whatever reason I didn't think through that this was an expired film. I have 3 decade expired Polaroid color 200 film I shot at ISO 25-50 and loved to death. I should have thought about it when shooting this one, that it hadn't been in my possession those entire three decades is probably what tricked me, since I'd had that polaroid forever.

Nuts.

I completely agree that it is nuts. Because both - Maco and JCH - are cheating their customers.
But they do it in a different way:
1. Maco:
They are repackaging Agfa Aviphot Pan 200 film (at least fresh film). They offer this film as
- Superpan 200
- Retro 400S
- Infrared 400.
All the same film, but with different data sheets and at different prices! They think their customers are complete idiots.

2. JCH:
Hunt is offering the former, long discontinued Agfa ASP 400s = Agfa Aviphot Pan 400.
If you look at the Agfa (Belgium) website, you will not find this film. Because it was discontinued many years ago!! The last coating of this film was in 2008, 12 years ago. A friend of mine worked professionally with that film as surveillance film at that time. And they were informed by Agfa in 2008 that this film is discontinued.
So Hunt is selling completely expired film! If you test it (I have done that with many, many films, and also did curve and speed sensitivity tests with a densitometer) you immediately see that, because the base fog is extremely high.
And the sensitivity has significantly suffered over the years, too.
If you want reasonable shadow detail, you have to expose this film with EI 50 - 100, depending on the developer.

And in that speed range there are lots of much, much better - and fresh!! - films at about half the price from real, excellent film manufacturers!

JCH is lying at his customers in a double way:
- he is selling long expired film instead of fresh film
- he is lying about the real, effective speed of this film.
And the film is completely overpriced for what it offers.

The film was introduced in spring 2016. At that time experienced photographers tested the film and realized it was Agfa ASP 400s = Agfa Aviphot Pan 400.
They reported the truth and were bashed agressively by Bellamy Hunt.
One year later he reported on his own blog that he developed his first film ever in spring 2017!!
That clearly shows the dishonest behaviour of this influencer. He is ripping off his customers.
