For those of you who've looked at some version of the Zapruder or other films, does the flare above Kellerman's head look like old Bell and Howell lens flare, or a gun that the driver is holding in his left hand over his right shoulder?

There was a documentary that came out a few years ago (1997) called "Image of an Assassination," where researchers took the original Zapruder film and shot each frame onto 4x5 transparency film, each of which included the image area outside the sprocket holes, all the way to the film's edge, thus giving a wider field of view than the original or its copies as projected.

They then digitally scanned the 4x5 trannies, using a drum scanner, and assembled them into a digital motion picture, adjusting each frame's position to account for jitter of the original film in the camera's film gate.

The results are spectacular, and everyone interested in the JFK assassination owes himself a look at the finished results.

Thanks

Thanks

I think I'll try to get this on amzn. Do you think they analyzed an original that was undoctored though?

I heard Elvis had to go out of the country to get his copy ;)

OK, a couple of points.
1. I'm glad we're keeping this Zapruder film issue alive. It's been a decade or so since I last encountered it. Important that it not be lost to posterity, like Amelia Earhart or Judge... Judge.... what was that guy's name who mysteriously vanished in the desert? Judge something.

2. That film sounds cool.

3. Those of us who live in major 21st century urban settings cringe a little when you old folks call film transparencies "trannies." We have another meaning for that word.

4. Crater! It came back to me! Judge Crater! Like Danny Cater but with an extra 'r'. (Danny Cater: part of a baseball tradition, Ron Swoboda, Rusty Staub, Lou Piniella, Keith Hernandez, Wade Boggs: slow white singles hitters.... ) None of those guys vanished (they were too slow, actually, to vanish anywhere) but Judge Crater he just up and disappeared.

Major AMERICAN 21st century American urban settings.

Remember that the English language was originally.... er... English.

Cheers,

R.

"Remember that the English language was originally.... er... English."

Was it? Well, there were no trannies back then, Roger, were there? :) But this diminutive abbreviation can be ambiguous. "Hassy" rubs me the wrong way too, but there were none of those either back before English was.... English.

Sorry, back to Zapruder...
