Will a Hewes stainless reel fit in a Jobo tank?

Are they all pretty much interchangeable?

I've got a Jobo tank on the way and was thinking about trying out a Hewes reel, so I want to make sure it will fit the new tank.

Thanks

No, you will require the Jobo stainless reels which are made by Hewes for Jobo.

This is correct. Jobo made (from about 1990 i think) a special fitting that allowed standard stainless steel reels (including standard Hewes reels) to be used in 1500 Jobo series tanks. It interfered with the normal use of the tanks. See the link below.

Then later Jobo arranged for Hewes to make a special steel reel (separate models for 35mm and 120) that fits on a standard plastic Jobo core. I bought 2 of these from B&H 2 or 3 years ago (120 size) but they seem to be no longer listed.

Standard Hewes reels do not fit onto the Jobo plastic core.

I was going to buy a SS reel for JOBO plastic tank, but now i've got used to the plastic reel and feel no need to use a SS reel, i have a stainless steel tank with Hewes SS reel, working great, but now i only use JOBO tank and its plastic reel over the others, i even have 3 Paterson tanks [one of them is large for taking 2 120 reels] and didn't use them much, maybe twice so far but they are there just in case i want to develop many films in one day and i can't wait to dry my tanks quickly.

Don't think you can buy them together from one source. Jobo tanks are imported into UK by Firstcall. Get your tank from them. A 1500 series tank comes with one plastic reel. I'd suggest you get a second palstic reel just in case you decide you prefer them, and you might.

You can get the hewes reels direct from hewes. Just make sure you specify which tank they are for because not all the reels are the same. The jobo ones have a hole for the pastic light trap thingy to go through and are of a bigger diameter to the ones for stainless steel tanks.

Cool. Thanks everyone. Contacted Hewes and am able to source the reels directly from them. They also do reels to fit in Paterson tanks now (in both 135 and 120) so that saves me having to buy a new tank...
