John Morris has died at age 100. One of the, perhaps the most, important editors in the field of photojournalism, he was also a wise and compassionate friend to those he worked with. In his last year one could sit with him and have a wonderful conversation, no fading memory, no searching for words and, of course, wisdom, but, when he got out of the chair and walked, it was obvious that he had lived many years. He died today. This is the New York Times obituary. Please read it and absolutely listen to the interview.

Sorry for the loss of your friend Bill. He made it longer, and saw more, than most of us will.

One of the reasons I chose still photography over motion, where my training was, was because of something I've thought over the years. I never put it into words but, a women did when she spoke the following in a film I once saw: When we leave here, we leave with only some memories - and a few good pictures, if we're lucky.

Best, pkr

Im in the middle of reading a book on the history of Magnum and Morris' story is integral to the agency and the impact on photojournalism. Thanks for sharing the link.

I am relatively new to photography and saw a documentary with him in it called "Get the Picture" and I just said to myself "this guy has a life well lived." Traveled, was dating, and still sharp as a tack. RIP
