well I am geeked. I have placed a bid on ebay for a Electro 35 GSN. It appears to be in good shape but I have heard about the "pad of death" not sure what it is but it sounds bad. either way I am not bidding much on it so if it doesn't work it will make a good showpiece.
Wish me luck
Adam

ok, pad of death? now you've got my attention..... whats that? both the cameras i got seem to be working fine.

There is a small pad of a foamy material inside all Electro model cameras that erodes over time like the light seals. The erosion of the pad wonks out the shutter and metering system. Don't fret, however. Though I've never performed this kind of surgery, many have with success. "The Yashica Guy" has excellent repair pages on his site, including replacing the "POD". I think this issue is a little overblown, personally, based on my limited experience.

This is the first time I noticed how similar are these cameras. Of course the leica is the king (queen? 🙂 ) but the others looks great as well. Maybe my next one will be an MG 1 or any black yashica electro...🙂

you know, for some reason i expected the GTN to be around the CL's size, and the MG-1 smaller still. totally did not expect them both to be bigger!

a) Congratulations!

b) In very general terms, the MG is the most intriguing as being a bit less famous than the GTN and so

c) FINALLY WE CAN HAVE A FIRST HAND MATCH OF GLASS QUALITY !
Kindly donate a roll, select a subject, photograph it with the three cameras passing the same roll from camera to camera, scan 1/10th of the frame and show as the results. Just a proposal.

Cheers,
Ruben

PS,
If you go really serious about it, use a tripod.

hi Ruben, alas, the comparison cannot take place at this moment, or more accurately, not with the MG-1 anyway, since that camera has gone to my sis-in-law. i can still do some comparison with the CL and GTN, but will have to wait, since they have different films loaded at the moment.

very shortly, i will also have full impressions of both cameras posted here or on my site. will drop a line when i do that.

the first roll went through last night. 1 hour photo and I am impressed. I still need work mind you but wow these are some nice images. crisp, clear, beautiful. Now if I can find a scanner...
