Im surprised at this forum's negative response to this partnership. Both Dieter Rams and Jonny Ive are masters of gracefully applying timeless design principles to modern technology/materials, all while Leica's industrial designers are limited with the parameters of being able to only pick the colors for yester-century's designs to appeal to community bitching. Leica is certainly proud of this charity event.

You are right. I think it will be worthwhile seeing what Jonathan Ive comes up with. He certainly has an eye and thinks about the materials side of it. Might be brilliant.

Going to be a revolutionary new digital TLR -- a solid milled block of titanium in the shape of Steve Jobs' head with the right eye as the taking lens and the left eye as he viewing lens. The shutter release will be up his nose.

This was the line (referring to the M) that got me:

"As with most of Leica's designs, Panasonic may license it to produce a slightly cheaper Lumix version."

This forum always has at least a few jabs for "special" Leicas. There's nothing to be surprised about.

I'm sure the camera will be Bau-licious in every way and very much beloved by the safety deposit box for which it is destined.

I'm not rich enough to dare bid on the Jony Ive M, but my iPhone 5 will be here on the launch day. I must admit it is surreal that the every single one of aluminum casing will be photographed and the computer finds the best matching glass inlays from 725 possible candidates. I don't think even Leica does that with their M today though they used to do fit and match by factory workers back in the days...
