Let me tell you guys--the iPad, as a photography magazine reader, is AMAZING. I had subscribed to JPG and downloaded all the back issues with the thought that someday I'd actually get around to reading the things on my laptop. But I just uploaded them to the iPad, opened them on GoodReader, and cannot tell you what a pleasurable experience this is.
I think this thing is the future of periodicals in general, but particularly photo mags, which are so expensive to produce physically. The iPad screen is really something--pictures look great--and text is easy to read.
JPG had better get some iBooks action going very quickly, including downloadable ePub format issues for subscribers. I'm just glad they hung on long enough for their medium to arrive.

I'm posting on it now...it is actually pretty ok to write on, but I will mostly be using it for reading things (I ostensibly bought it for work--reading long student manuscripts, grad school applications, and the like).
I doubt I will ever do serious photo editing on it, but I exported 1024-pixel sized copies of every single one of my photos and put them on here. If you are a pro, you will want one to show people your portfolio on the spot...it is excellent for that.

I'm curious to hold one in my hands (won't be available in my country until the end of April) but probably won't be buying one. Other than the fact that I'm short on cash the lack of Flash support kinda kills this for me. So many websites I can't look at. Can't even watch The Daily Show on this.
Hopefully there's going to be some competition on the market soon, though.

I haven't found the lack of flash to be an issue so far. I use clicktoflash on the Mac anyway, to watch only the flash I *want* to watch. But many sites have already converted to html5 --- here is a list:

it is pretty impressive, fast , excellent battery life, and crisp beautiful display. I held out for all of 60 seconds upon entering the store before I found myself in the checkout line buying one.
Very true, the battery seemingly lasts forever.

How does the screen look outdoors?

As for Flash, it sucks. It's time to go.
That might be so but I'd still like to have the ability to access it and not have a patronizing turtle-necked prick making decisions for me.

I got one on the first day. Made 3 coworkers run to Apple Store and get it after giving a demo, including 2 guys who had 3G model preordered.. I'll probably get 3G one (return or sell Wifi model) when it comes out. I see so much possibility in this device beyond as a viewer.

Probably, though it's hard to imagine holding the iPad with one hand while masturbating.
I'm sure there's an App for that.

I have a 15" powerbook. I long for the day when Apple makes the 15" power/super-maxiPad (i.e. what I have now, minus the keyboard and cram the rest into the back of the screen).

There's no question, this is a tightly controlled device--the perfect platform for viewing an animated GIF of Cory Doctorow's head exploding. It isn't going to replace the computer. But, for what it is, it seems just about perfect.
I AM curious what HP's offering will be like--that is supposed to be a Win7 tablet.

HP isn't offering 10 hour battery life that is really 14 hours, I can tell you that much.
Yes, mine went 14 hours before needing a recharge.
I have a 15" MacBook Pro, I don't think I'd want a 15" ipad. That's too big.

OK. But e-ink wins there for sure.
Probably, though it's hard to imagine holding the iPad with one hand while masturbating. At least the glass is easy to clean!
I am glad you are such a master debater and cunning linquist. S'cuse me for not shaking your hand.

Our household acquired one - it's very nice on every level. If you think of it as a $500 reader, it is expensive, if you think of it as a $500 laptop replacement, it's a good price.
Regarding photography related content, the glossy screen renders photos nicely but has the typical glossy screen problem, with reflections. And more noticeably to me are the fingerprints/smudges.
Regarding Flash, I also use flash-blockers on my browsers and would never wait for a site that shows a giant flash-loading screen upon arrival. The web browsing on ipad is extremely fast for a non-laptop device.

I'm wondering how to upload photos here with an ipad. I got one when accompanying a friend to pick up his reserved machine. Fell in love with the screen and am still trying to figure my way around without RTFM.
However, I'll still use an analogue rangefinder 4evah!
