back when I rode a bike, I had a .50 cal ammo can that I'd padded with pieces from a blue foam sleeping bag mat from KMart. I just strapped it to the rack over the rear wheel that came with the bike ( used bike)

I looked online and several places offer plastic copies of the .50 ammo box-it'd have to be lighter! Ebay has several vendors and Sportsman's Guide and Cabela's have them also. Walmart has the blue foam mats I cut up for padding back in sporting goods most of the time.

Look perhaps for a bike shop that does rental and start from there. Bicycles are a mighty fine transport, and in a way it is like walking at a faster pace.

I am curious about hoy you guys would carry the cameras while riding. I often have them in a backpack, stop, take them out, shoot and in they go again. A bit inconvenient, but doable and quite comfortable under weight.
Athough possible, I never liked to carry the cameras slung across unprotected, feels dangerous in a way and tend to be bouncy. I don't have a -biking- messenger bag, but feels that it would strain one side of the body too much.

I do imagine that in a front basket would be mighty convenient.

BTW, my 29er is very comfy for long rides. I feel that the back sits rather straight and it helps with carrying. City bikes feel quite comfy and laid back. The more aggresive position of (my) road or 26er feels much more strained -- maybe because mine are dad's I'm not down to the geometry!

Being European but without any foreseeable visit to NY, I may lobby towards the cause of a ride meet up in the future.

Really I think it will be about lowering the main span onto barges. I believe once loaded onto barges the barges will have to be moved out later tomorrow as not to block navigation.

I think when they raise the McGuinus draw bridge and bring out the barges will be the shots to get.

Newtown Creek is still used to move oil inland to refineries.

Also do you really think they are going to close the BQE to traffic on a workday?

Not at all, it reminds me of the canal by my old job in Pelham Manor, they used it
for the refinery's as well, pretty stinkey at times.

Oh well. it will eventually be cut with explosives though.

On another note, one day, not during a heat wave or extratropical storm, Bethanne and I will be coming up to NYC to get a burger at Molly's, a slice of real pizza and to meet with a few friends. I'll keep folks posted but it's almost certainly not going to be on a Sunday.

Let's do a deadly burger together.

The main span it seems will not be lowered until next week. The beginning of the day had this great diffused light due to cloudiness, but then we had that harsh summer light. It drizzled on us a bit.

It was just Philippe and I on bikes. I shot my SL2-MOT with a 65/3.5 Elmar VISO lens. Basically it was a Tour De LIC on bikes.

Lately I have been optimizing for shooting at F5.6, and the Kodak 5222 I was shooting at 400 ISO forced me to shoot 1/2000 and into diffraction. A better choice would have been FP4 at 160 ISO. Just wanted to let you know that I'm moving into and embracing slower speed films.

I think in about a year and a half I will be deleveraged, and at that time I can afford a $500-$600 rent increase to rent a two bedroom two bath. I don't expect "Maggie" to subsidize my studio and darkroom, but I figure I need to give it a go.

Public darkrooms to me are like public restrooms: I only use them if I have to; and for printing large in a fine art manner a public darkroom will never do.

Monday I got a very cool Nikor cut sheet film stainless steel tank and cut film reel that can be adjusted to hold a dozen films or either 2x3, 2 1/2x3 1/2; or 4x5. This reel and tank are kinda rare, and I got it at a wonderful price.

I'm also going to experiment with Rollie 400S a film with a clear base and extended IR range. Film mania is fully raging. With the Linhof CINE back I can get 60+ exposures of 6x7, or 120+ exposures of 645 on 15 foot lengths of 70mm film, and I have three stainless steel 15 foot reels to speed up development.

Also have been building up 18 rolls of 120 capabilities with a Nikor dip and dunk rack. I still need 3 1/2 gallon tanks.

I'm in a good place, and I'm moving ahead.
