New York July NYC Meet Up Date

Cal, I think it is $278 for the first one. My friends got it recently... but went to court and they got out of it. $278, the second $463, and the third $1,028 is what I've heard.

John,

Brutal.

I got different numbers at the Meet-Up.

Luckily I don't have first hand knowledge. This is a game changer for me. I don't want to bankrupt my 403B from bicycle fines.

My IBIS is set up for a drag race so I can still be aggressive by rapid acceleration and trying to snap my chain to develop snap and strength.

I forgot that Jean-Marc notified me that the expensive schalloped hood I paid $359.00 for that fits my 28 Cron and 35 Lux ASPH Pre-FLE now sells for crazy money ($1K).

Profits like these remind me of the excitement of day-trading cameras as commodities.

That is just ridiculous... but good for you. You won;t sell it though... I know you.

John,

Another example of "Crazy is good." LOL.

Anyways its like the old days of day trading cameras as commodities.

I feel an other episode of "Divine Intervention" and "crazy is good" happening later today. You pro-feat-i-cally mentioned it at the Meet-Up another crazy thing that looks to be happening. LOL.

While not as good as getting a large format printer for $100.00 that only made 1802 prints before I got it, it seems like another "killer" deal.

John - thanks, glad you like the pics.

I'm the idiot getting the traffic ticket. Received 2 summons. Was in total disbelief. Didn't know this was enforced at all . Going to fight this in court because should really count as one offense. Anyways , back of ticket says "NYC Bicycle Red light" $190.

You're welcome... I'd love to see more. Wow, I wonder why my friends got tickets for $278 then... there must be variations or they read the ticket incorrectly. Anyway, a search for $278 online and $190 seems to show people getting both. My friends went to court, the judge asked the cop if he could prove my friends went through the red light, he said no, and the judge dismissed it. Seems worth trying to fight.

GEAR ALERT: I bought a Nikon 8000 scanner with anti-newton ring glass holders, manual, CD that is reported to have been serviced by Nikon N.J. about 3 years ago.

I have a 12 inch Macbook Pro G4 that has a new battery that needs to be cleaned up to be a dedicated scanning computer. Of couse this G4 was fully loaded and maxed out when I bought it new in 2004.

I figure now I have about 200K negatives to process that date back to 2007 when I got serious about photography. Like John I was away and lost for a while and did not really shoot to build a body of work.

Anyways Maggie has been really supportive. Our bedroom is devoted to being my print studio and partly a fashion blogger's closet. Hard to call it a man-cave when it is filled with women's clothes that keep on coming from all these designers as gifts. Pretty much the most bizzare print studio on the planet. Anyways, "crazy is good," we say.

Anyways it seems there has developed a "Fashion Subsidy" where my shooting for Maggie's blog has resulted in a free Nikon D3X, a half price credit on a Nikon 58/1.4 AF-D, and paying photography gigs that are rather lucritive.

So when I brought home my "new" obsolete scanner home I got another generous offer to help subsidize and underwrite the cost of my gear expansion from Maggie. Also Maggie will pay for me to take a fashion photography course at FIT to help direct and give me an understanding that pretty much is out of my comfort zone.

John at the Meet-Up said as a joke, "The next thing you will get is a scanner." LOL.

Way back when I was an anolog film only die-hard... Then Leica came out with the Monochrom... Now I'm doing everything I swore I never would do... I might have to get a cell phone and begin texting... LOL.

I think $278 is for vehicles. From the back of my ticket:

Red Light Offenses NYC
1st Offense $278
2nd $463
3rd $1028

Bicycle Violations
NYC Bicycle Red Light $190

That should be fun...

John,

No joke: Fashion photography is hard work. Particularly hard if you are a lazy slacker. LOL. This line of work involves crews of people, stress and deadlines.

I was kinda assisting a shoot that Maggie and Mike (the real deal fashion photographer pro who lives in my building) were doing. One model came about an hour late after being out partying all night (the lasse from Tell-E- Has-C). Hair artist, makup artist stylist (Maggie), photographer's assistant, two models and Mike were the crew. Seven looks (wardrobe changes involving 7 locations, some remote from the staging area which I was looking after.

Anyways what chaos. I found out later from Maggie that the younger taller model who came late wore no panties and in some shots she was exposed.

Call me a lazy slacker but I find walking about exploring chasing light carrying a camera or two an adventure that is relaxing.

Know that when I go shooting for Maggie's blog that I have no assistant, so most of the time I am carrying a woman's handbag, jacket, sweater or spare shoes while trying to take the shot.

P,

Boy I'm glad I don't own my 84 Jeep Scrambler with the Corvette engine. Pretty hard to drive casually in that beast.

Laws are no fun. LOL.

BTW that was the true fun of the 70's: there basically was no law and effectively you had no police.

Pretty much the first thing I did for my Fuji negs. However, flatbed is a no no for my slim 35mm work.

Lately everything around me is pointing to "never say never" because I've had a couple of friends fall into hands of women and, should have seen them before and after. I love to confront them with their own words from a few weeks ago. :D

Best with the Fashion Course. Mucho work as you say, as there is that choreography. Never thought to do anything about that area but I do fantasize for fun (you do have Maggie to get dragged into)

One of these friends has the complex of a model (tall, muscular, fit and attractive) and more than once I've had an idea about a photoshoot at his home. Ain't happening as he poses real badly and there's no direction that can work in there at the moment.
I have a badly posed Polaroid after all...

I am complaining and whining I know. I already have so much gear and now I have even more. I don't happen to like DSLR's enen though my F3P is rigged with a motordrive is about the same size and about the same weight.

The fashion shooting is so fast paced that I do think it has made me a better photographer. Seems like I even shoot more and even take even more chances to get the shot.

Then again these fashion shooters seem to be a breed apart, and I find them mucho interesting. Too many mucho crazy unbelievable stories and pure smut. Anyway a very crazy world.

Indeed there's a lot of stuff to be learned. Personally, high paced shooting is not something I prefer, and specially having to edit/select a thousand shots afterward.
I've had many situations where a scenery is nice but lacking of subject, and a model would be nice. I have the idea of what fashion photography is but it's rather far from what I can stand.

I've always kept away of DSLRs but I adopted a $50 Nikon F80 and found it to be a fun P&S "battle" careless camera. I even took the thing into sea, keeping the right arm out of water; that was hilarious.
As of gear, as soon I got that camera I wanted a nifty fifty... But shopping for film instead I got a nifty fifty bill, so I decided against GAS :D
Despite having a modest job I still keep the student budget mindset.
