How about combining the June and July Meets and moving it to the Cherokee area?

Sounds like a plan. My travel budget is taking a hit the next couple of months, so I'll take a look at what camping spots are in the area, perhaps at the event site itself. Do you know anything about the latter? I'll bet a bunch of us could really swap some lies around a small fire at night. John W.

Guess that means the casinos are out?
Camping would be terrific! In fact, it is only 45 minutes over the mountains to Gatlinburg and there are a lot of places to camp in the Smoky Mtns.!
I will check into it for you.
BTW, trout fishing is to die for...

Dave:
You catch'em I'll campfire cook them. I've got enough gear to outfit a couple light infantry squads, so we might be able to put together a photographer's camp as a Southeastern RFF "before it gets too hot" annual event. That area has lots of possibilities. Let's hope their dancing doesn't include a rain dance. John

Just gonna toss in my .02. I spend a LOT of time up that way. I have already been up there 3 times this year so far. All of the developed camping in the GSMNP will be crazy jammed with kids, dogs, RVs etc....
I will come for sure but I am picky on my camping areas....

Yes, David, that is exactly the case. Very busy time of the year. There is even decent camping in Dillard, but reservations are required, I think.
It might be easier for folks to split a room at a hotel even in Gatlinburg or in Dillard. Speaking of which, the Dillard House has an amazing food spread three times a day.

Dillard GA? That is a LONG way from cherokee!
I have a few spots i go to down near the Cherohala Skyway about 45min south of Cherokee.

A long way? Less than an hour's commute for me since 1968. But then, living 40 miles outside of Atlanta is a normal commute for me whilst some people never leave downtown!!!
Lucky dog....Moot point for us as we can only daytrip it anyway. Done that many years in MG's and by motorcycle two-up.

Whew, what a disaster this week has been...
So, it is June already! We will be in Cherokee on Saturday morning at 11:00am at the Big Boy Restaurant on 441 just before the Great Smoky Mtns. National Park entrance...

We will be driving up early and may drive back that evening...all depends on finances, etc.
So, count the two of us in!

Wait! Wait!! We may not be totally dead. I can't make the weekend meet, but I will go to Manuel's and have a beer or two whilst I am thinking about bears chasing you guys up in NC...

Hey Dave, I still plan on making it out there that weekend! Money's a little tighter now than I would like, but I think I can swing it. I still need to ask the better half if she's going to join me though.
I would still like some harder info on camping up there though. I'd never even seen that part of NC until Greg and I were driving back from ATL in April.

Wow...camping is very popular this time of year! Never done it except at Cades Cove on someone else's ticket. Guess you have to google it or start with the National Park Service site. It is a really cool thing to do.
Of course, we can only daytrip it due to cost but should be at the Big Boy restaurant at 11-noon. Once we get there, I will ask around about getting into the Pow Wow.
