ok, so it is standard 40.5 thread...any other options?
I have managed to use the vented hood [ the usual aftermarket e-bay type] and i can get a 55-58mm adapter ring on [just ok] then a 58mm yellow filter onto the ring. Will work out OK.

The vented hood will not be suitable for 35mm lens though will it?

hi, i use a 40.5 mm filter...doesn´t need a extra hood, the elements are down in the body of the lens...very flare resistant...

... same here. Only problem is setting aperture with dark filters ...

cheers guys, flare is not the concern, more worried about vignetting.I have several yellow filters, just trying to keep `extras` at a minimum and utilize what is available.
Just spent half an hour making another hood that will take the filters I have, this one much shorter and pushes on over the focus barrel.Used a mamiya 135mm 2.8 retractable hood cut down, not pretty.

I've got one of those generic 40.5mm vented hoods on my J-12; I know everyone says it's flare-resistant by design, but I saw enough flare in mine that a hood seemed like a good idea. It also makes it easier to select the aperture setting.

Anyway, here's what I did to check for the possibility of vignetting: with the hood in place, use a locking cable release and hold open the shutter. From the back of the camera (I'm assuming you have a removable back model), place a ground glass or some Scotch tape across the film gate and point the camera at something bright. Look through the ground glass toward the front of the camera, paying particular attention to the corners (a loupe is helpful here). You should be able to see if the hood intrudes.

FWIW, I see no evidence of vignetting with the generic hood on my J-12, but you should confirm this for yourself to account for equipment variations.

Phone pic, worked out ok,siliconed a rubber ring on the inside so that the hood just pushes over focus barrel and is tight enough so i can focus using the hood.
