I have just acquired a 1961 Jupiter 12 Contax fit lens for my Kiev 4am. It does not have the factory case and I wondered if anyone had managed to improvise a workable home made one. Any suggestions welcome.

Are you sure you mean a case, or rather a rear cap? Cases are plentiful. If you can't find a fitting rear cap, a cheap adapter to, for example, Sony E mount and the respective rear cap could work. It does for my ltm one.

For, at least, the LTM Jupiter-12 a part of a film canister (often?) work well as a rear cap. At least it works well on my Jupiter-12. The Contax mount is different so I don't know if it works there.

That's what I have on my Contax mount Jupiter 12.

Thanks all, now managed to make the slightly oversized container that came with the J12 by cutting the rim so it can be squeezed smaller to fit inside the lens barrel. Can still use a case for it though, can I know where you have seen them? I have had no luck on line so far. Don't think I got the gist of the suggestion about using an adaptor-I didn't think they were generally availble for the Contax bayonet. Thanks again, regards.

Right I didn't realize there were no cheap adapters, they all seem to have the helical that you'd need for the 50mm lenses.
Regarding cases I don't see how that's specific to this lens, it'll fit in any little case or pouch it'll fit in, vendors usually give dimensions for these things. Ebay is full of soft pouches, hard cases indeed seem to be rare. If you want to improvise, some metal canisters that fancier brand spices come in might be the right size?

Don't know what you are adapting to but search for an EXTERNAL CONTAX ADAPTER on Ebay and you can find several.
If you need a Rangefinder Coupled adapter your two choices are a current production Amedeo adapter (Ebay or CAmeraquest) at around $200-$250 or an old adapter from the 1950s (can't remember the name now) that I have seen occasionally on Ebay but never for less than $600.
