Hello all,
Another J12 question. I've had a Kiev for some years now, nice 1956 vintage, learnt camera repair with him, and I'm now thinking about getting, at last, a J12. Question :
Is there any possible incompatibility between an older camera and a newer lens? (late 1980s)
Are late 1980s as well or better made than their 1960s counterpart? (I'll skip what comes in between, too much of a finger-crossed purchase otherwise).

Thanks a lot,

I can't remember the specifics but I can recall reading threads on compatibility issues with some Jupiter/Kiev/Contax combinations. I'd try and stick with a lens of similar age, if possible. I have a feeling that early lenses on late bodies are the problem area.

As for quality, I think the consensus is that the later J-12s are pretty much the same as early ones. With most things FSU, late production is usually more of a gamble.

Buy, try and if it doesn't fit sell. I don't dare say there is any kind of rule what fits and what doesn't.

Regarding quality: it's always a gamble, because you never know what the lenses have gone through in their life. IMO with this old equipment, the manufacturing quality isn't as important...

The J12 is not compatible with the Contax IIa and IIIa, but is with earlier Contax II and III cameras. As the Kiev is based on the II and III designs I believe the J12 is compatible with all Kievs.
