I've got a jupiter 3 (got it you know where) that just showed up and its great looking with one exception. I've contacted the seller to see if he's willing to do anything about it. I wouldn't be surprised if this was caused by shipping. Looks like its got a couple loose aperture blades, and wont open up all the way. It looks ok at f2, but as I close it down, it appears to look pretty funky. The aperture isn't round, its kinda tear shaped, and it looks like there are a couple blades out of place. Is this even worth opening up to try and fix if the seller wont do anything about it? If its not fixable, is it possible to remove the apature blades entirely? I would most likely be using it wide open most of the time anyways.
I did check focus with it.. It looks pretty damned close. I don't have a loupe to check it closer.

Not offering a fix but an related question, do anyone have any idea if the aperture blades for J3 and J8 are the same? I have never seen a J3 myself but would be interested to know.
On a seperate note, my experiance with tearshpe aperture, it is usually because the nipple on the bleades have disloged, so you will need to find replacement blades if you decide to fix them. I have some spare J-8m aperture blades kinging around and if OP needed some I will send them gladly for a nominal donation to RFF.

The blades of the J3 /appears/ very similar to the J8, they might be the same. I only looked into the lens without taking the lens apart so it might just be an illusion...

I know Brian Sweeney has a thread here at RFF (use the search function) for reshimming a Jupiter-3. Perhaps there may be other threads that deal with J-3 repairs.
Otherwise, the Masters will surely chime in later.

Sounds like the seller is willing to replace it.. This might require me to ship the broken one back.. Hopefully faster than last time. It took about 5 weeks.

Most definitely they are different - J8 has 9 blades, j3 has 13, j-9 has whooping 15 blades
