I slapped the product of my latest bout of GAS - a Jupiter 3 50mm f1.5 - to the front of my trustyt Zorki 6 and set out on a rather grim and overcast Sunday, to capture whatever light was possible!

I had read mixed reviews about the Jupiter 3 and so had an open mind about how the results might turn out.

Having developed the negs I am very pleased with the lens. It is very sharp indeed at f8-16. Its flexible enough wide open to be able to shoot indoors and I like the bokeh it produces (alhtough jpeg compression is not great for this!) Only downside so far is soft edges at f1.5 - f2.8

I'm looking forward to a brighter day...

I have placed a few shots from my first roll in my gallery. I'd welcome any comments.

I picked one up that was improperly re-assembled. I've gotten the fingerprints off of the internal elements. Next step is to collimate it. The focus was off by a foot at five feet. Six set screws and you are in. I'm convinced this lens can take a sharp picture. I know it can. I can make a sharp picture by holding it in front of white cardboard.

I really like the lens. Make sure to grab a hood if you want to shoot outdoors though, it has a pretty strange flare that can ruin an whole shot.

Hi Einars,

Thanks for the tip, Sunday was so dull that I had no-chance to experience any flare!!, i'll have a root around and see if I can find a hood to fit.

I like the Jupiter 3 shots in your gallery...

My Jupiter 3 arrived yesterday, but unfortunately the Kiev 4A is somewhere on the Steppes. I will give ithe J3 a run this weekend in the IIIa and see how it compares with the Sonnar. I enjoyed the shots on your gallery
