Jupiter 35mm lens on Nikon S2

My new old Nikon S2 has arrived and at first I wondered what was so good about it. The shutter speed dials are a bit clumsy to see and the shutter release feels to be in the wrong place. Viewfiner is lovely and shutter sounds sweet. Prefer the Contax at this stage but for looks the Kiev III would take the cigar. One problem, I could not mount the Jupiter 35mm lens to the Nikon. The 135mm long focus fits nicely but the black Jupiter does not go. Maybe there is a difference between the silver and later black lens...anyone have a comment on this?
 
As far as fitting a Jupitar 12 (35mm) on a Nikon S2, everything I have read says that the Jupitar 12 wont fit on any of the Nikon rangefinders, The Jupitars rear elements projects too frar into the Nikon and that goes for the Contax 2a and 3a too. I know that for sure as I I tried it on my Contax 2a and 3a's and it will not work. Thr post WW2 Ziess 35mm biogon will fit from what I have read, but I have not tried it myself. - Michael
 
the J 12 mounts on my S2, it will scratch the Nikon's nameplate with a circular mark when mounting though.
 
I had a problem mounting my black J 12 from the late 70's on my Kiev from the 60's. It's possible but every advantage of having a bayonet mount is gone...sometimes not possible at all. Would be good to know if it's easier with a silve one. Karen Nakamura from photoethnography used a J12 on a Nikon

I have both the Jupiter 35f2.8 and a pre-war Biogon 35f2.8 and both work fine on my Nikon's. As a matter of fact, the Biogon is on one of my S2's at the moment.It is a tight fit, but no more so than one of the 35f2.5 Nikkors.
The Biogon 35f2.8 (prewar) wont fit on my Contax IIa - I haven't tried to much, but I will try to figure out why. The Jupiter goes on it, with some effort.
The Jupiter does scratch the front plate on the S2/S3's - yet another reason for staying away from "mint" camera bodies!
 
There can be quite a bit of variation between samples of FSU lenses. Some of that may be quality control, some of it may be due to minor changes introduced over the duration of the production run. It's pretty well known that some lenses will mount readily on certain Kiev bodies, and not mate well, or even at all, with others. Usually some fiddling with a file or screwdriver will sort this out.
 
I have bought a couple of Jupiter 35mm lenses here at RFF and the ability to make them work on a Nikon RF varies with the individual lens. Some mount directly some need a little bit of adjustment (with a smooting paper - there are several good older discussions here at RFF on how to do it!).
