Jupiter Lenses

I use the Jupiter 8 with my Bessa R. I love this lens. I am used to Zeiss lenses since I have used the Contax C/Y mount system all my photographic life. The Jup8 is right up there with the Zeiss as far as I'm concerned.

I have the original Data Sheet for a J-3 optics module that lists its focal length as 52.5mm. That module is the black-nosed, black-aperture ring version found only in the LTM J-3's. For me, it settles the "contraversy" of which standard the J-3's were built to.
It certainly seems so.

Aside from LTM and Contax mounts though, J-3s were produced in cine mounts and for surveillance/technical vision cameras, but it is plausible that all of them adhered to same (original Contax) focal length standard.

There was certain sample variability for optical modules: if you look through passports for older (pre-1970s or so) samples, they show measured focal length, which sometimes deviates considerably.

Combine that to variability in mounting the modules into focusing barrels and it might explain why some samples work on Leicas out of the box: the play in the tolerances combine to favorable direction.
