Jupiters on RD-1

Just curious- has any RD-1 shooter ever put a Russian Jupiter on their DRFs? Just wanted to ask 'cause I don't know if I'd be able to see or do it myself. Darned thing's too pricey for me. Even if I'm able to save up for one, chances are, the 10.000th unit might have been already sold :p
 
I have a J-12 which I am very fond of. It's a really fine performer even close up and wide open. Color rendition is great. I guess I was lucky.

you know anyone who has this RD-1 here in the philippines? send me an SMS in case get the chance to test one...with russian lens attached to it, of course :p

The J-12 in particular was what I had in mind when I asked that 'Russki on RD' question. Were the jpgs you attached shot with J-12 on an RD-1? I've heard and seen the J-12 mount with difficulty - if not downright impossible- on Bessa RF cameras. The protruding rear of the lens hits the primary blind of these cameras.
The RD-1 specs say that lenses whose rear elements protrude more than 20.5mm should not be use. I measured my J-12's rear extenstion at infinity and it was something like 23 mm.

In our high-tech gadget oriented, AF-only L type lensed society, I doubt anyone would even care to look at what could be the equivalent of a digitally resurrected dinosaur...well, maybe except us. :) I did a not-so-extensive search on the 'net where it could be bought. In SE Asia, it appears that only Hongkong has them. None in the Singapore or Australian online shops. At HK$20,000- that almost Php 131000 in local money.

From experience I can tell you that the J-12 does fit on my R-D1. My specimen flares like hell, though (did so on the Leica M as well), so I have no current pics. I'll need a hood first, which I'm too lazy to get. :)

Dr Yao is most reliable and very good to deal with. He sold me my R-D1. Including shipping, bank transfer fees and custom fees, I still saved me 500 euros on the retail price here in Holland.

thanks. Now that has fired my fancy even more. I've got a nice '83 black Jupiter-12. Doesn't flare in my Zorki, Leica IIIc, or the M3 for that matter. All that talk about lenses too close to the sensor and its consequences (which prevent Leica from releasing their digi-M) made me wonder what a lens like the J-12 whose rear element almost 'kisses' the film plane would really do. I've seen what certain odd-shaped rear elements can do with DSLR sensors- flaring is on top of the list- and this are elements which lie about 44 mm from the focal plane.

BTW, I read your replies to that taiwan metro dude at the digital M7 thread. Bravo!!!! :)

Does Dr Yao have a site?
