just bagged a Pentax Mx

my mx arrived, clean and better than described, it came with a 50/f1.7 lens, which i read somewhere that it is quite a sharp lens. the screen is clear and the metering works. my leica iiif is probably longer than the mx. it is that small.

will bring it out tomorrow for a spin...

A few years ago I was given a bag of photo gear that included a Pentax K1000, MX body with winder, six or eight lens (Tokina 28~105, 17, and some odd off-brand K-mounts as well as two Pentax 50's), flashes filters, and other odds and ends.
Much of it sold or given away, but I still have the MX body, which is an excellent camera.
I thought about keeping the stuff, but I already had the focal lengths covered and couldn't see running a third 35mm system.

forget the reviewers, the 40mm a fine, tiny lens. makes the package extremely small.pocketeable.the original 28mm f3,5 large but very sharp, flare free.mine in some ways better than a friends Leica lens..there is a small "M"lens. a few..
i had the winder as the camera was TOO small in my hands. i have small hands! never put batteries in the winder, so can't add about how it feels/sounds working! sold mine when i was doing weddings, needed flash and unfortunately more auto exposure for my lab..should have found another lab. i hated the Canon EOS that took its place! Gave to my daughter, who sold it. Hated the EOS also. It did all it was supposed to. That doesn't make it a pleasure to use.
i added a ME-Super many years later. another great small camera.

I've been a good boy........for now.

It starts with a 50, then you neeeeed a 28. Then you find a small 200mm......

Then you start the PAS it's a subset of GAS.....together it's.....

I keep an old battered ME Super around just for nostalgia! It makes a great loaner for friends, and late night drunk camera fondling never hurt it much.

Still waiting for a P3 to come my way!

I have 3 ME Supers, all thrift store finds. I also got 3 lenses there. Nice cameras, but they don't get the exercise they really want as either my Fujica kit or my Contax 167 kit get more attention. I try to give them just enough exercise to keep them useful if I should ever run out of Fujica ST901s or Contax or Yashica FX cameras. :D

Hey oftheherd, I just picked up a Fujica st800 with 50f1.4 and 28f3.5 fujinon lenses. Looking forward to using them. I need a diopter lens for the viewfinder though. It doesn't have one and the view is somewhat blurry to my eye.

A Pentax ME was the first SLR I owned. I compared it to a Nikon EM which was also in my university student budget. The Pentax felt so much more solid.

What a terrific camera. The LX is easily one of the most elegant SLR's (IMO) but the MX is wonderful too -- incredibly small and fully manual, too.
Way back when, I had one with a power winder. Used it constantly...a good find, on your part.

congratulations, I always wanted to love the mx but it's just too small for me just never felt right. And the 50 1.7 is a great lens I always felt is got short shrift because of the 50 1.4. I sold my 1.4 and kept my 1.7 and the 55 1.8. just something about the 55 shooting it between 3.5 and 8 .

Congratulations but...I still prefer the LX.

The MX is IMO a weak design, the thickness of the top cover is so thin that it gets nicked very easily, they sacrificed building quality in order to make a smaller camera than Olympus.

just bought an MX with K 50/1.4. I must be crazy for doing this but what the hell.

The K1.4 is a better lens than the M1.4 and possibly the A 1.4 but it's a little too big for the MX, mine always has the M1.7, I use the M1.4 on the LX and the K1.4 on the K2DMD or KX.
