Just bought a Leitz 5cm Elmar for £25

Do you line them up at f/3.5?

I get round this by just picking intermediate positions on the Elmar, f/5.6 equals setting the aperture lever halfway between f/4.5 and f/6.3.

A great lens, I like mine. Now, I don't mean to be a wet blanket, but is that damage I see on the front rim right between the "z" of Leitz and "E" of Elmar? Might not affect performance or operation, but could affect the use of filters or hood, even the cap.

Did you run "the flashlight test" on this lens? Its bound to be a little scary when you do, but you want to know if there's any wierdness on internal elements. Its supposed to be easy-ish to clean haze from the elmar, and its common to have haze. My elmar has just a touch, so I leave it for now. In practice, it only affects contrast.

Going to use this on the M2?

and yes l will give it a whirl on my M2😀😱

Well the lens arrived and l am one happy chap, glass is good or at least better than l expected for a 80 year old lens, focus and aperture selection lever were a little stiff but some fine gun oil have sorted that out.....so for £25 l am one very happy chap, this 1936 lens will never win any beauty competition but at the least it will give me the opportunity to source a 1936 IIIa to use with it😀 it would be wrong not to
