Canon LTM just bought this Canon 50 LTM

Canon M39 M39 screw mount bodies/lenses
If this deal is through ebay, sellers are not allowed to surcharge for paypal. At least that is my understanding of the TOS of both ebay and paypal. As to that shipping charge- was that for overnight delivery? I could see a standard delivery charge being half of that.

He gave me only ONE option for delivery.

"Due to the volume, we only ship out once a week so please be aware that packages may take up to 7 business days to ship. If you have purchased multiple items we may reduce shipping charges based on size, weight and handling."

I bought a lens and a body from that seller: both a few years ago. They were as described. Looks like you got a good deal.

thats clearly unacceptable.

Jim, that shots are great. I have seen so many awesome samples from this lens... That was the main reason I was after one for some time.

Hacker the seller offer me various delivery options. My experience with him was really diferent from yours... Ones where cheaper than 70. If I have use wire transfer, that does not obligate him to use a tracking system (like Paypal does), the shipping costs where about half that price. But then my international wire transfer fee would result in an even higher price...

We are hostages of financial organizations and banks. In one way or another we, as the final users, will always end up being rip off by them.

Regards,
Joao

Just pray that Canada Post doesn't lose your shipment from Canada. The only eBay item that I've truly had lost in shipping from from Canada, with full tracking via "Expedited Parcel". It vanished after the first PO. Some "service" for $20.

Thankfully Canada Post honored the insurance, but what a bummer -- I really wanted the item, which was much rarer than a Canon lens...

I think that's a good deal - I bought one recently for $300 all included from a member here. It was in excellent condition.

I got it today. The lens has some marks and one scratch when I shine a torch light (12 o'clock). Description is not accurate.

I've emailed Alex. Let's see what he says. The focusing and aperture clicks are fine.

"Comes with original front lens cap. Cosmetically very clean; no dings, dents or major marks. Mechanically working well; focusing is smooth and aperture clicks are crisp. Optically clean and clear; no fog, fungus, separation or scratches."

I too have kept my eyes on some of the lens being offered by the dealer/seller in question. Is that an actual scratch or a fiber of some type illuminated by the light? In the top photo, it looks to be suspended above the lens (hence the out of focus appearance) and attached to the retaining ring.

I think part of the problem with dealer descriptions is that the buyer almost always examines the item with more exacting scrutiny that the seller.

No, I have verified that it is a hairline scratch on the glass, underneath the rear element. I have since contacted Alex as he asked me what I propose, or I can return it. I have responded saying that it does not make sense returning it (given the high cost), and using http://members.aol.com/dcolucci/can.htm as a guide, have asked for a $50 refund.

Description was inaccurate. Confirms my friend's experience. After 7 days, no replies even though I sent a few emails. AVOID and all costs!

Put it behind you and enjoy the lens. Those marks won't ruin your photos.

Also, I want to agree with the people who are saying sellers are not permitted to charge a PayPal surcharge on eBay. That's true. I don't buy anything from anyone, ever, who asks for one, even off eBay. I've sold hundreds of items and consider PayPal to be a huge advantage to the seller--the level of convenience is well worth the couple of bucks you lose.

Seriously though, start taking pics! Burn off those bad feelings with some fun.

Thanks for the warning. It seems that this ebay seller has his own set of rules. What's your next move?

I left negative feedback. Know what? I suddenly had claims of why his emails did not reach me, blah, blah, blah and how he had asked me to send for cleaning, etc. Totally not true. I sent emails via eBay and via his email to be sure. Also, there is absolutely no email to suggest that I send the lens for cleaning. *AVOID*

And yes, I have started shooting:

After the usual month waiting for Portuguese customs to deliver shipments from outside EU I received my Canon 50 f1.4 and I am quite happy. It is not a new lens and I wasn't expecting one, but I can't see no scratch (one or two fine marks on the front element and the rear one looks really fine). The blades are oil free (this is more than I was expecting) and both rings are smooth. Stop clicks are great. Maybe my expectations about an older lens like this was not so high... I'm satisfied with mine and as soon I scan my negatives i will post some photos.

Congrats !

The Canon 1.4 built quality is awesome. What a little hefty piece of glass. Better built than any modern 50/1.[54] lens - including the Summilux, IMO.

Enjoy !

Roland.
