Just for fun: post your 2008 film statistics

I need to show my wife this thread. Just to prove that I really don't take THAT many photos...

I got off to a slow start this year, but I've had access to a darkroom since April, which upped my productivity a lot.

About 50 rolls of B/W 35mm, mostly HP5, but probably about 5 sfx200, 1 efke IR820, a couple panF+, and about 5 ea. fp4 and delta3200
Maybe a dozen rolls of C41 35mm, mostly Reala and Pro400H

Probably not quite 30 rolls 120, mostly B/W, bergger 200, hp5, and a fair amount of SFX200, and a couple rolls of agfa optima C41 I've had in the freezer forever

25 sheets 4x5 B/W FP4, and about the same # of paper negs in the 4x5 (mostly for pinhole)

25 sheets 5x7 HP5, and probably twice that in paper negs, and another dozen or so using the efke direct positive paper. (just got the 5x7 this year...loving it!)

Digital? Some 3000 raw files saved. But a good chunk of that is events i've covered, not personal.
 
In 2007, I shot around 2400 frames of 35mm film--about 90% C-41 BW, the rest color--and maybe a dozen rolls of 120-all BW.
Last year, I decided to shoot more silver BW and try several different films. I ended up shooting about 3100 frames. The split was about 50% C-41 BW, 10% color, 40% silver BW.
And 18 or 20 rolls of 120.
So an increase. But the number of keepers remains about the same. I'll chalk that up to learning the new films.
Almost all of the film the last two years has been 400 speed.
This year I have a different plan: I will be shooting more slow speed films. I intend to keep plenty of BW400CN around and add to that several slower emulsions both color and BW.
And I have stopped shooting 120.

pretty rough but in 2008 it looks like I shot roughly 1200 feet of 5222, so I guess thats about 210 rolls, 200 rolls of acros and another 100 rolls of ss, apx, tmz and fp200. busy year.

I have to mail order my film and I bought film twice last year so that makes it easy for me to keep track; I bought 100 rolls 35mm film--mostly 36 exp but some were 24(that's why it's 3100 frames rather than 3600)--and 15 rolls of 120. And I had a few rolls from '07 that I used. If I were lucky enough to be able to just grab a few rolls from the store as I needed, I'm not sure I'd have as good an idea of what I shot last year.

I bought film five times in 2008, always four bricks at a time. So that's 20 bricks / 200 rolls. All was Neopan 400 except the last buy which was Arista Premium (can not tell the difference in the prints)

2008 was about 80% 35mm, the rest 120. That is a change from 2006 and 2007 when it was 80% 120.

I always have at least one brick of 35mm and one of 120 in the refrigerator so my usage is a good approximation of what I shoot.

I did shoot 4 rolls of 120 chrome and one of 35mm chrome from the freezer in 2008 but I edited out every frame. Same with the two times I shot with my DSLR.
 
I average 1-3 rolls per week and for the entire year. Still, no digital photos taken except to post a photo of a lens or camera online.

That is an ambitious project. All I do is write down the month something was shot. what lens/camera used and developer/film combination. Kind of works, but it does require flipping through 5-600 negative files to find something specific. The thought of going through close to 8000 rolls in that file system and organizing them is tempting, but also daunting! Wish I had started that earlier!

Not that I was a big film user this year, but I keep track of all the info with a FileMaker database. I open a new record for each roll, and number it by the date I finish shooting it. There's tech data, scan details, printing detail including prints given, and of course a commentary on subjects shot. I can search the database by camera, lens, film, subject etc etc. Probably overkill for many, but I find the info useful and don't find the record-keeping unpleasant. FWIW, I keep a similar database on all my photo gear.

Edit: Before I had a computer I kept the same kind of data on 4x6 file cards, and numbered rolls sequentially. All that old info is in the database too, total of 1308 records, some of which apply to 2 or 3 rolls. The first record is Dec 1962 with a box Brownie, with gaps of years with no shooting in the late 70's, late 80's and the 1990's. Negative sleeves, contact sheets, and prints all labeled with the roll number, and it's satisfying to be able to find stuff fairly easily.

29 rolls of 120 and 191 rolls of 135-36 self-developed (BW & C-41), 53 rolls of both, 135 and 120, lab-processed (some C-41, E6, Kodackchromes). Makes 273 rolls of film in total. 🙂

In 2009 already two rolls of 120 Tri-X. 😀
 
I have been on Flickr for about two years now - posted about 7300 shots. I find it does help with several things. It is quick to scan anything that looks interesting and get an idea what the shot will look as a print. It is also a way to keep track of shots. My negfile system is simple - Anything shot in North America has a letter and a running film number. It started with V -001 in 1987 as we were not sure how long we would stay! It is now E990 so there are 5990 rolls on file, Overseas trips started with S, progressed to T and there is also a P designation for Paris (my favorite city for pictures). On the file page is also the month, occasionally location, film type, developer and camera/lens combo. It is fairly quick to do and has now become automatic for me.
Of course there is the "guilt" file with multiple 100's of negative files that has not been organized pre-87! And the boxes with Kodachrome slides - ouch. Probably 12-15000 of them. Oh, one day!
 
Hm. Only one film this year. Don't like handling film at the moment.
Some figures here are quite impressive. Some people here say quite often digital is hammering away pictures. I am reliefed now that my 2600 digital pictures are not that much even compared to some film users here.
 
I shot 137 rolls CN 35mm which I had developed at the local drugstore. Since September I develop CN at home; that were another 84 rolls. B&W were approx. 50 rolls 35mm. (Digital only for business and equipment shots for my blog).

The year 2008 had 8784 hours and I shot 9756 frames (film) in this time, which brings me to an average of 1,11 frames per hour ;-))
