Well, i just got a next to new R2 (in olive baybee!, this is my second R2...just sold the first one) and man...i just sit and look at it (need to actually get my ass up and take some pics). Anyhow, i failed to notice it had quite a bit of silver items on it - lever, shutter speed kob, shutter release button. Too bad the corresponding items from the black R2 weren't on there. that would make it a killer black/olive thing. and yeah, i am talking pure aesthetics here. hopefully this weekend i'll get to go out and shoot.

btw, are the numbers that i see floated around true - 2000 olive ones and 4000 black R2's were made?

well the closest to silver i have is Brian Sweeney's old 50/1.2. too bad it isn't all black...😉 speakin' of which, i need to post my wide open results of my 50/1.2 vs 35/2.5 vs 85/2 (jupiter). gotta scan em in first. 🙁

I bought an Olive R2 in a kit with a 35 Summicron. In order to afford the lens I had to sell the camera. My black R2 was only weeks old but the olive would command more $ on the market, so it went. I was really tempted to keep it when I opened the box and saw the camera and lens together.

Powder coating is an interesting thought, if it can be applied thin enough. I had some exterior stair rails powder coated. As I understand the process, it's somewhat similar to a photocopier... The "toner" is a powdered plastic that is electrostaticallly applied to the item (which can be masked), and then is fused/melted in place with heat. There are different textures and colors, and the result is pretty tough and durable.

The Olive R2 is really pretty; if only they made the new Rxa cameras in olive, or even chrome.

IMHO the R and the R2 are much better looking cameras than the R#A cameras. I agree the olive R2 is sweetie. Contgrats on the acquisition ent2b. Now quit staring at it and take some pics! 😉 🙂

Ray, i am saddened to say that because of the funk that working on my dissertation has put me in, i have no desire at this moment to even pick up a camera. i opened up fotoshop the other day to process a few pics from a studio shoot i did in the beginning of june, but couldn'get get past looking at 5 of them. i think when my work/experiments go better, i'll feel better enough to pick up the camera. soon, though, i promise! 😀

btw, in retrospect, i do like the spackled paintjob on the black R2 body. i will certainly miss it, but it's found a good new home.

Excellent choice Asim! I have an Olive R2 since 2002 and it has been my primary camera since. Although I have 2 black R2, they are sitting in the dry cabinet only to be fondled occasionally. Nothing in the Voigtlander line that catches the passerby's eyes better than the Olive R2 IMHO! A couple of weeks ago, I was shooting in the local park and a bunch of high school photographers with their tripods and DSLRs walked past me, one of them took a look at the R2 and exclaimed: "What digital is that!" 😛

Ride that pain! When it's all written then you will feel a huge rush and then be able to go and have fun. If you try and have fun now then that little voice will always spoil it!

I know. I've done it so many times!

:bang:

i'm ready to shoot that voice in my head! LOL

unfortunately, i wont have much or a rush. as soon as the dissertation ends, my studying for step 1 of the medical licensing boards begins....no rest for the already weary....🙁

Talking about Olive RF bodies...
I have an M2 painted in Olive Green (NATO Military Green Spec) with silver wind-on lever, speed dial and rewind knob, and a a contemporary silver 35/3.5 Summaron, and believe me although not an original it really looks gorgeous in its gently aging state. It was bought a year ago for £300, fully serviced by a Leitz trained technician. Looks apart, it produces fantastic images.
