took my camera in for a CLA, guy in the shop said it would include checking/ajusting the range finder, shutterspeeds, meter and replacing the light seals.

the rangefinder and shutter speeds seemed to me to be accurate before i took the camera in , and it looks like a good job has been done with the lightseals however the meter is completely unaccurate, its about 2-3stops out at any time.

i would take the camera back however i need to know if selenium meters are even ajustable, if not i think i will just accept that its old and doesnt work properly anymore.

If it worked before, your repairhuman has not done their job. The shutter speed dial has a gear that fits into another gear, if the dial and gears aren't put back in the right places, it will read off. Send it back or demand a refund and send it to someone else. However, be sure you're testing correctly, compare readings of a diffuse light source (like closed window blinds) with a known good camera or reflective handheld meter.

It is very easy to "mis-time" the gear from the ASA dial to the f-stop dial. Very.

Check a few photos from the top of Canon 7 cameras, and see if your f-stop dial winds up in the same place at the same shutter speed and ASA setting.

thing is i didnt really test it before i took it in, i knew the seals needed doing so i just had a CLA done for peace of mind.

its definately out, at about 3pm on a sunny/slightly overcast day metering off a white car with iso400/1sec the meter shows f/11.

not sure what you mean

I had a 7 in the past.

Your meter is as accurate today as it was 1 year ago... CLA will not change that unless someone has a pile of that specific meter chip - IOW, nothing was changed.

The 7 is a great camera just forget that the meter even exists. Buy a nice handheld and be happy with the exquisite viewfinder.

thanks, think im going to sell the 7 then hopefully buy an ikon/hexar af/R3a + cheap 50 1.4 with the money.

i really like the features on the 7 but for me a rangefinder at least has to have a working meter but AE is preferable.

so, anyone intrested in a very clean canon7/50mm 0.95 with origional case with a fresh CLA? 😀

oh and does anyone know what this clicky turny thing does on the back?

It switches the meter from high to low sensitivity - for bright light or low light metering. It will probably be more accurate on the low setting. The high sensitivity setting is the orange dot and low is black. When you read the meter use the corresponding color coded scale. If the meter is set to one color and you read from the other scale, the meter will appear to be significantly off .
