Just got my F6 back from Nikon!

I sent in my F6 and 50mm 1.4G to be focus calibrated to match. The 50mm was front focusing quite noticeably in the view finder. About 3 weeks and $300 dollars later, both are back and focusing great! The 50mm seems to have been cleaned and has new rubber. The F6 was always in great shape so that still looks good as it does. The focus is much improved. I check it with my lens align system, and it still has misses where I have to correct every now and again, but they're much closer. In real world targets so far it's spot on. The F6's VF is really incredible. I don't think I've ever focused on something quite as nice.

It really came back just in time too, as I'm leaving for a vacation on Saturday. Now I get to go buy some Ektar 100 and Delta 100. 😀

I'll be in the sunny British Virgin Islands, and I have a lot of Portra 160. I'll probably alternate between Portra 160 pushed 1 stop, Ektar at box speed, and Delta 100 with an orange filter. I'll bring my 50/1.4G and 35/2D. Everything I need should fit in my small domke satchel.

My F5 has similar issues with the 1.8g lens where occasionally it will get the focus wrong, the older 50D lens is spot on. In real life it has never produced any out of focus pictures though.

Interesting, the focus failed on my F6 a few months ago too. Always babied, never dropped.
Nikon fixed it for about $300 too. I had it easier because Nikon LA is very close to me so i just dropped it off, and got it back 3 days later. See how that works Leica?....

It had begun front focusing too which was very noticeable ruining shots.

Interesting. I have never experienced a problem with my Leica front or back focusing. 😀

Apparently some of the film-era M lenses have back focus issues with digital sensors. Presumably they now need to image accurately on the front surface of the sensor, whereas previously with film I'm guessing they were optimised for imaging in the middle of the emulsion layer?

Just shot a few rolls of Portra 160 at 100, alongside Ektar at 100. Made for consistent metering.

I’m yet to process, but looking forward to results of the Portra 160 compared with the Portra 400 I usually shoot alongside Ektar.

I assume you meant Portra 160 pulled one stop (rated at 80), not pushed (rated at 320).

Actually I typically rate Portra 160 at 250 and push 1 stop. It has a very unique look that I really like. It's quite a popular way to shoot this film. If I'm doing portraiture or what the film was really designed for I don't actually over expose very much. I shoot Portra 160 at box speed and Portra 400 at 320.

I’ve been shooting Portra 400 at 200 as I understand it is extremely flexible, up to three stops over with normal processing. Results have been pleasing to me, but I’m probably less discerning than some.

I’m very interested to know what look you get from 160 if rated at 250. Of course I just need to try it for myself, but your insights would be most appreciated.
