Just got my fed 2

Tape down the diopter lever once you get it set. I found myself continuously adjusting it.

Check the rangefinder to be sure it seems reasonable.

Shot a roll? ;)

Definitely shoot a cheap roll. Use all the shutter speeds on it, and get it processed quickly. If all looks well, get it in rotation!

I put a little piece of "self-adhesiv velvet" (ok, I don't know the name, I hope you can understand what I mean) under the dioptric lever, just to have it a bit more sticky. If you wear eye-glasses, I'd suggest also to put a rubber ring on the viewfinder, just for protection, and (just in case of light-leaks) a little strip of the same self-adhesiv velvet into the groove in which you insert the removable back.

Enjoy your new toy!!

Still waiting for my FED-2 to get here from Ukraine. It should arrive any day now. When it gets here I will have the big three of FSU rangefinders...

Zorkis! Kievs! and FEDs! Oh! My!

Best tip from experience:

go to your local lab, buy cheapest c41 film. shoot it, get it 1 hour processed. Look at prints, buy another roll, shoot it, get it 1 hour processed. Keep repeating throughout the day until you start to get used to things. Don't be put off by cock ups. Don't be afraid to take it apart. Don't be afraid to abuse it. Don't be afraid to use.
