How will I be able do a firmware update to the R-D1s (if needed), if there is no connection or cable connecting the camera to a PC?

Probably by downloading the latest firmware to the root folder of your memory card, then sticking it in your camera. That's how it works with the Nikon SLRs.

O.K thanks, I just didnt know that there is a way to update firmware through the memory card.
