Just pulled the trigger on a Canon 50mm f1.5 in LTM - needs fungus cleaning

Well it has arrived. I am impressed by Japanese sellers . Seven days on the button to get to Oz. I have experienced that organisation and good service with other Japanese sellers. No wonder I like them. What's more, the lens looks much much cleaner than shown in the eBay advert. The seller made it sound (and somehow look) somewhat worse than it actually is. There is a smudge of something on an inner element (I have not yet studied it closely but will soon) but its pretty minimal - so I may defer any thoughts of stripping down and cleaning for now.

Excellent news. 🙂 Although if you do decide to open it up, it's a pretty simple DIY.

Here is a "nothing" shot taken last evening in my study. The horse is a tad out of focus (or perhaps this is how the lens performs wide open and at absolute minimum focusing distance) but that does not matter. I took it more to see how the OOF areas look. And I can say I like how it does look given its a very ordinary background. Also the DOF is very thin - you can see that the sharpest point is the decorative side of the saddle but what sharpness there is drops away quickly in front and behind.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread... but I want to clean mine out a little. Some marks and very light haze on inner element just below the aperture. I have done my Canon 50mm 1.4 LTM many times with no issues. On the 1.5 I take the optical unit out expecting the front portion to screw out like on the 1.4. I just can't work out how to get the two apart. Any ideas appreciated.

Not sure if I'm reading you right, but if the haze is on the element behind the aperture blades (rear element group) come in from behind. Very easy to remove the rear group.
