Just thought I'd say hello after just signing up. I found this site while searching for info on rangefinder cameras after accidently buying a Hi-Matic 7s on Ebay.
I was cruising Ebay during lunch just before Christmas and ran across an auction for a Hi-Matic 7 with 5 minutes to go and only a single bid of $9.99. I figured, what the hay, and put in a bid of $12.50. Short story, I won the auction for $12.50. When the camera arrived it turned out to be a pristine Hi-Matic 7s in the original leather case. Only on small dent on the top right corner. Now how do I tell my wife I bought another camera. After telling her it only cost $12.50 she was fine.
My first camera was a Voigtlander Vitessa L which my father bought new when we lived in Germany in 1954. I sold it 7 - 8 years ago because I was stupid. Go ahead and kick me now!
My present cameras, beside the 7s are: Nikon N90s with 20mm thru 400mm lenses, which rarely gets used these days; Bronica SQ-a with 40, 50, 80, 150, 250mm lenses, which is my primary camera; a barely used Konica AutoReflex A, which my father-in- law gave me, with 28, 40, 52, 135mm Hexanon lenses (boy are the Hexanons sharp); and a Nikon N-60, which is my wife's point-and-shoot. Seems like I am regressing when it comes to photography. I've even started to use Rodinal as my film developer.
My primary interest is black and white. I'm thinking of just using Tri-X in the Hi-Matic to try and stay retro.
Again, Just saying HI.
