Just stopped myself from "ramen for a month" life

I'm a college student.

I'm lucky enough to have a leica body (got a very beat up but very usable M2)

but after a long night of studying, the beautiful and clean M6 in the classified section looked just so... good..........

I've been wanting a black body leica for a while now..
even thought about getting my m2 painted.

at 5am... it just all makes so much sense.... to just get it..

who cares about paying rent right? 😀

thank god my mind came back before it was too late...

If you face the choice of paying for necessities (food, rent) or buying a used Leica, there is nothing to think about....pay your rent and buy some nutritious food. No camera is worth going hungry for, or losing your apartment over. None, not even a Leica.

You'll take the same pictures with your M2 as you would with an M6. If you want to "upgrade" just do so when you can afford to. 🙂

Many say the M2 is a superior camera to the M6 anyway.
Neither are weather-sealed, so it's always best to have a roof over your head. 🙂

I preferred the M2 to the M6 because the finder is so much less cluttered. Never shot wider than a 35mm on an RF, so the M2 was perfect.

Well, I lived on muesli for a week in the 1970s to buy my Stereoly and viewer. And my late father-in-law lived on baked beans for a month in the 1930s to buy his Colt National Match (which we still have). There's a difference between failing to pay your rent, and living on cheap food for a while.

Incidentally, where are there credible references to HCB putting tape on his cameras?

Seriously, I have had an M6 like you mentioned, later replaced by a black paint MP. That is gone too, sold when MP prices became ridiculous. I kept my old M2. Sometimes, the less expensive and pristine it is, the more you use it as you are not afraid to bang it up, and you just stop thinking about the gear and focus on making the image.

Make yourself a promise. When you graduate and land that first job, you'll treat yourself to the Leica as soon as you have some disposable income. That will be your graduation present to yourself.

i'm been back at uni after 4 years of work and at the moment i do it the other way round: sell gear to pay my rent 🙂
