I found a roll of slide film that I hadn't scanned yet and this was on it. Manipulated a bit because for some reason it isn't scanning like it should...

Cropped as well. I'll try and take more similar to this and do better with the exposure this time. My first try with slide film.

Also, note that this is a SUNRISE, not a sunset. Sunsets are my next thing...fall sunsets are especially gorgeous around here.

I definately prefer the cropped version- a lot more impact, and uses the brilliant color to best advantage.

Nice shot.

Like the cropped version better - a lot of dead space in the original.

I would second the recommendation of A&I mailers. They're in California, but the turnaround time back to the east coast is pretty good and at about $8.50 a roll, they're competitive.

My vote for the cropped version too... My only gripe is that my monitor only shows a very small amount of the frame, but what I see is pleasant. Good job!

BTW, try Dwayne's Lab for slides. Not only do they process E-6, they also do Kodachrome and their service is excellent. I've stuck to them and I'm very happy about their job. A&I is excellent too... but I send them only my random, practice rolls. For my better jobs, it's Dwayne's.

very nice, Steph.. I'll have to view it on my home monitor which is much better than my work setup

I personally would compromise on the crop.. I think your cropped version is a bit severe.. you need a little more black on the bottom so the eye doesn't come to an abrupt stop as it goes from top to bottom.. but then, I'm pretty much stuck on the Thirds Rule.. I'd do something more like this.. altho a little more cropping might still be in order

and I agree with Brett, not such a severe crop at the bottom. Lovely shot, great color, stark realism.Slides are so great aren't they?

That is a fantastic picture. I don't often feel something stir when I see a picture, but yours defenatly got me. You might try Blue Moon Camera and Machine for you slide developing. You can view there website at bluemooncamera.com. They take a lot of pride in their work, and I think if you ask they will develope by hand. I have always had great results from them.

Definately the cropped version. Like it a lot - well done. Almost makes me want to go back to shooting colour slide film, as I used to do back in the day....
