Just Won a Contest!

I just won the Grand Prize in the Oregonian Travel Photo contest. I have never won anything larger that a football before! The prize is a 5 night stay in Amsterdam (plus airfare) for two. Here is the photo that won (I submitted it without the title - just the image):

Congrats. nice shot, perfect title. Where exactly was it taken? lots of iron?

It was taken the The Painted Hills in Oregon. There are many layered colors there, but this little walk-through area was all red. The colors change a bit throughout the year and over time (or so the signs say). It all depends on what mineral is exposed. The red coloring comes form iron and aluminium.

One word of warning: five days won't be enough... but having your hotel paid for is MORE than enough. Amsterdam is a beautiful town. I wish I could go back...
